View Full Version : California Quarterly Packages - Which vendor is the best?
dolphina 06-11-2006, 07:36 PM For your mans quarterly package, do you use Access or Walkenhorsts? Or a different vendor I dont know about?
What are 3 things that are a must in your guys packages??
dolphina 06-11-2006, 07:37 PM I use access, but do want to try walkenhorsts one of these times.
Coffee, soap, cereal
RoseMateo51 06-11-2006, 09:10 PM I have found Access is a far better company to deal with than Walkenhorst's; I just had more trouble with Walkenhorst's and Access was like skating on glass.
RoseMateo51 06-14-2006, 10:00 PM Eating crow here....munch, munch, munch....lol Not real impressed with Access either after the phone call today from my honey; things are missing from the package and they put in some cereal he never ordered and doesn't like. Access won't deal with me so I have to wait until the property officer contacts them.
islandfevah 06-15-2006, 04:34 PM We attempted to try Walkenhorsts by ordering online. The problem is that the 2006 catalog they make available to the men doesn't indicate whether an item is approved for SQ or the other institutions for that matter.
Several (10+) item codes came up not available. I asked about what was going on because my total order would have come up to about $300. Walkenhorsts' explanation was that some of the items "should have" been available and they will correct those. The other items were simply not approved for SQ.
Now, your story about Access worries me too!
RoseMateo51 06-15-2006, 05:56 PM I spoke with Access this morning and the property officer had already called and the items missing have been shipped out at no charge to me; all's well that ends well....lol
jennie_ie 06-17-2006, 02:16 PM Ok i am all new to this!! Whats a quarterly package anyone please???
JOEYZLUV 06-17-2006, 03:24 PM I Only Knew About Inmatepackage.com But These Other 2 Sites Look Much More Appealing I Think Ill Try Them Instead And See How It Is. Thanks Girls
pleyden 06-21-2006, 12:50 PM So can anyone tell me if inmates in reception can receive anything other then stamps? I want to send him a package but I am assuming he can't receive anything yet. Can he receive a special package from SecurePak?
dolphina 06-21-2006, 01:51 PM Id hold off on the pkg just yet. Wit till you know wheres hes gonna be and how they classify him. It all depends how they classify, your allowed diff items in each priveledge level, ect
CSunshyn 06-21-2006, 09:28 PM I use both Access and Walkenhorst.. I prefer Walkenhorst...
as for what he gets every time-
soap, beef jerky, candy... among other things
RegisSweetness 06-22-2006, 06:39 PM i personally like access. ordering with them is very easy, customer service is helpful and they ship fast. ive never tried walkenhorsts. they're way too expensive. you get more for less with access in my opinion.
sharonno1 06-23-2006, 08:24 AM i use access walkenhorsts are more expensive
KeviesMom 07-09-2006, 06:31 PM I have only used Access and have had no problems. You can indicate that you don't want substitutes if things are out of stock.
What I do is I input my order online and then click on the edit key, print it out and call in the order. That way, I just read off the item number and the quantity and they imediately tell me if something is out of stock so I can choose something else. I want his package to be for the total 450 oz. It is not a gurantee that everything will be in stock by the time it is shipped but I have usually gotten everything that was ordered.
I did have one time when I ordered a CD Headset and was charged for it and my son received a new CD player instead (cost way more than what I was charged)!!!!
Miss Ing U 07-10-2006, 12:58 AM Thanks ladies for that advice, my day is coming soon for me to place and order.
sadheart 07-10-2006, 04:10 PM Yeah, I am taking notes too!! Hopefully not too far away, my friend will be out of reception and able to get a package. I think I'll try Access, I have already looked at the site and gotten familiar with it. I am helping to direct his mom on what to do, so she will be using my computer to order.
Sadheart:broken:
Miss Ing U 07-10-2006, 05:24 PM I think I am going to use Access also. I had been looking at Walkenhorts, but I think I rather print it out and order over the phone.
islandfevah 07-11-2006, 12:20 AM Okay, so I placed my first order online with Access and it went through with little trouble. There was only one small substitution plus they removed $5 off the order for the item that wasn't available. So, we might continue with Access next quarter.
mylilhippo 07-24-2006, 03:23 PM I have always used Accesss and NEVER will use another company. They are great. If you spend over $100 you get $5 off. they are quick, easy to use and friendly. Also, they will substitute for similar items if something is not available.
MISSINGMYSIS 10-13-2006, 05:22 PM My Sister Is Located At Vspw, I've Been Using D&d Enterprises For Her Packages. They Have A Good Selection Of Items. I Am Pretty Sure They Work With All The Prisons.
(Web address removed per PTO Policy.) You Can Call And They'll Send You A Catalog Too. My Sis Has Been Very Satisfied With Them, Said She Wouldn't Go With Anyone Else.
monet420 10-14-2006, 05:04 PM All I have every used is Access and I have had trouble geting refunds it takes forever and you have to contact them if you want a refund the only reason I still use them is because they seem to be the cheapest one out there.. I think I am going to try walkenhorsts this quarter and see what happens
MikesSis 10-25-2006, 03:35 PM I usually use Access. I have been happy with what they have and there prices are good. They seem to have a larger selection. Last quarter my brother wanted a supplement for his liver that they only sold at Walkenhorst, so I ordered from them. It seemed VERY expensive. I ordered a watch that my brother wanted and they did not get it in for weeks (like 4-6), I thought the quarter might end before they got it. :( I have also ordered a package for my friends brother through Union. (They paid, so I did not pay attention to if it seemed cheap or expensive) The first time it seemed like the order did not go through and I did not see a charge on my card for like at least a week. I called and they said I needed to place the order again. I did, and then that day I got and email confirming the original order, so I had to call back and cancel the other order. It was a pain in the butt.
Lovingmyhubby07 11-11-2006, 11:29 AM The only vendor that i use is Access and it's GREAT.. It took my husband less than a week to get his packages and it seems really fast and easy.:)
cadustin 11-12-2006, 12:51 PM Just used access and my husband got his package before he got my letter!!
theropes06 11-15-2006, 11:07 AM do we know what the website is for access.
My husband just gave me an order but it was from,
californiainmatepackage
is this one any good?
The website your husband gave you is for Union Supply. I ordered from them once and everything was fine, but I've read about bad experiences others have had with them.
I no longer have the Access website because we had one to many bad experiences with them and won't ever use them again, but I'm sure someone else will come along and post it for you.

theropes06 11-15-2006, 02:14 PM which one do you use then? Any other recommendations, I requested a catalog from access so that I could cross reference with the Union Supply to Access. This will be our first order and I want to make sure that it ships before the end of quarter. I heard that Ironwood cuts off a little early on the quarter and we probably won't have his classification until after Thanksgiving.
Thanks,
N

rachelb_ 11-29-2006, 03:06 PM I can see that a lot of people aren't too happy with Walkenhorst's and really sold with Access. So far, I've done two packages with Walkenhorst's and one package through Access. Everyone IS right that Access is fast, simple, and cheaper, BUT Walkenhorst's has so much better variety for my sister. I don't think guys are probably so difficult (hee hee). They probably don't care as much about different lotion scents, body wash, etc. I prefer Walkenhorst's for the variety available and so am willing to pay a little extra for items. I've had a few minor issues with Walk's but EVERY time, they have made it good ASAP. They've been very courteous, helpful, etc. They don't charge any shipping, etc. like some of the other vendors, and they have numerous ways to order. If anyone has any questions about my experience with them, feel free to ask! :) Good luck with your packages!
I use Walkenhorst. They have a good selection, and also have a lot more brand-name products. My brother likes those more than the prison-brands like they buy on canteen (Keefe, etc.). I've have nothing but good experiences with them, and have even had them go out of the way to find new CDs that aren't yet in their catalog. I think they're a bit more expensive--probably b/c of the brand name products--but worth it for me.

myshadow 11-29-2006, 07:41 PM I vote for Walkenhorsts
joseandmelany1 12-01-2006, 12:22 AM I sent my husband a package on 10/21 from californiainmatespackages, they shipped it out on 10/31!!! He just got it on 11/28. He is at Ironwood. Is this the normal wait time on packages? It seemed like forever, I had almost forgot about it(he didn't!!) When I went on Walkenhorsts website it said would take extra time because they were busier than normal. I am not sure how the stuff he got was or nothing yet but will let you know when I find out.
Cherii 12-01-2006, 10:52 PM Hiii.. My son will be arriving in WASCO in aprox 2 weeks He just turned 19. and I would like to order him items that will keep him mentally occupied.
If I can get a URL for Access and some others I would really appriciate it.
Thank You...
joseandmelany1 12-04-2006, 12:48 AM Here is a link that will show you the approved vendors for Wasco.

Hope this works...I haven't done this in a long time...
joseandmelany1 12-04-2006, 12:51 AM My husband just wrote me and said he received everything I ordered and the only thing was they cut his toothbrushes, they can't have long ones. Overall my experience with california inmate packages was pretty good. If I could only say that about the mailroom that took forever!!!!
