Hi Everyone,

My name is Cherisse, I am new to PrisonTalk my BF of 2 years is in Tracy, CA (reception) and will be heading to PVSP next week to serve a parole violation charge. I have a question...I sent my Visiting Form to Tracy and have not heard whethor or not I have been approved? It has been at least a month. Does anyone know if this process will be delayed now that he is transferring? If I do get approved, is that good for any Cali Prison? I haven't seen or talked to him in over a month:( So I am getting really anxious. What about receiving calls on a cell phone, is that an option?

Anything else I might need to know would be greatly appreciated;)

Thanks!!!!

Hi there,

Well, it took me about two months to get approved to visit PVSP, I would suggest that you call visiting at Tracy and ask them what's going on. If you get approved at Tracy, that approval is good for any Cali. prison. You're supposed to update every two years. To be honest with you I don't know if the process will be delayed or not, like I said, if i were you I would call visiting at Tracy.

I have been visiting PVSP for about a year now, it is ok compared to other prisons, and they are less strict as to what clothing you wear, if you want to visit, there is an appointment line that is open Monday thru Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. but it is super hard to get through, the number is (559) 935-3780 if you do not have an appointment, there are walk in visits that start at 10:00 a.m. some people get in to a line of cars very early in the morning to get a good pass number, others just wait until 11:00 or noon and walk straight in. I have never done that so I will let them tell you how that goes.

The main phone line for PVSP is (559) 935-4900, I hope that I gave you some good info and please don't hesitate to ask any questions that you may have, we're all here to help! :)

Thanks SO much for the info :)~! I will call Tracy (visiting) tomorrow. Do you know anything about mailing books? I sent some from amazon.com to DVI about 2 weeks ago, and they were just returned. Now that he will be moving to PVSP, I am just going to have them sent there.

Thanks Again

Hi,

No worries about the info, that's what we're all here for! :) It was my pleasure to at least try and assist you. Anyway, yes I know that PVSP accepts books from Amazon.com, I personally send them from Barnes and Noble and they accept them with no problem, I have never tried Amazon. But I have heard from others that they have had no problems either. I hope that this helps at least a little, and like I said, please don't hesitate to ask any more questions that you may have!!!! Good luck when you call Tracy, I hope you get good news. :)

Hey Cherisse, welcome to PV!

I send books from Barnes & Noble.com, I haven't tried Amazon at PV, but ti's good to know they work, too... I know some prisons stopped doing Amazon last year.

Let us know when you are approved! I applied at Delano and was approved in exactly 1 month.

Lucky's right, they are fairly casual about dress code most of the time. The regular visiting staff is mostly very friendly and nice!

I did receive a letter yesterday dated 6/10....he was supposed to be transferred to PVSP yesterday 6/15....I hope he's there? Can I call to find out if he is there....I'll probably have to hold 4ever too?

Calling pvsp is easy: (559) 935-4900**. As soon as the recording comes on press Zero for the operator. Ask for records. They will tell you his housing and address, even his counselors name and number if you are nice. I have not had any problems. They are usually very friendly and helpful.
**Make sure you have his full name, date of birth, and prison CDCR number on hand.
There are other threads that will help with information on visiting, mailing, and just about anything else you need information for. -C

Ok....looks like a change of plans. Which seems to keep happening:rolleyes:

Now...my BF is not moving to PV, he is still in the hole at DVI, and might be going to Avenal instead.
I got s letter from him today. I am in Sacto, and at least Pleasant Valley wasn't too far. I haven't really researched Avenal but I know it's farther:(.

Thanks for listening...

Avenal is 10 minutes south.
Go as if you were going to PVSP. You'd probably take the I5. Turn on 198 east to Coalinga. Go through Coalinga. About 4 1/2-5 miles east of Coalings will be the Rte 33 turn off. Follow it to the right. 10 minutes you will see the sign for Avenal. Just past that you'll see the prison on the right.
Too bad. I've visited both and like PVSP better for the actual visiting room. The officers are about the same. If you are friendly to them they will be to you. The advantage to Avenal is after your visit, you can make your next appointment when you are leaving. PVSP, you have to call in on M-W between 11am and 1pm, good luck! Most of us just show up on the weekend.
Good Luck where ever he goes. -C
