View Full Version : Confused about Alabama packages
TRICIAANN2 06-10-2006, 07:45 AM I am new to Alabama rules
I send packages to several New York inmates and as long as I follow the directives I can send packages directly or from a mail order catalogue
Can I do this in Alabama or do I need to go through a specific vendor

Lysbeth 06-11-2006, 12:41 AM Alabama has very specific rules and even some of the prisons have additional rules. The packages are quarterly and the inmate will receive a list of what's allowed when the time comes that they can share with you.
When it's a clothing/hygiene packages each facility will have a list of their own rules.
When it's a food package (and the holiday package), Alabama has been contracted with a company that does these orders. That company allows ordering by mail and can also order on their website. Don't know if future packages will be with the same company or not but as always, the inmate will get the information when it's time for a package again.
TRICIAANN2 06-13-2006, 10:24 AM Lysbth thanks for the reply
regarding the quarterly packages when my friend gets the list can I send the items in from a mail order catalogue I buy for someone in New York
and this is how I do it
also can I send him a copy of the catalogue so he can pick the items he wants
does Alabama have a general directive or rules

Blueyez94 06-14-2006, 09:45 AM When it is time for packages (they usually get 4 per year) the inmate will be notified and if he qualifies he can get the package. There are 2 food packages which you have to order thru a certain company. Then there are 2 hygine package which consists of t-shirts, boxers, socks, toothpaste, etc. You can send the hygine packages to the inmates but certain times of the years, like my husband is at bullock and there hygine package had to be mailed off by May 31st. Then the next hygine package is around October, I think.

But can I send it from a cataloue directly to my friend or do I need to send it directly from me

Blueyez94 06-14-2006, 03:09 PM Triciaann2, The hygine package has to come from you...
Smelly 08-20-2006, 12:44 PM Does anybody have any further information on Alabama packages?
Lysbeth 08-20-2006, 05:58 PM What exactly did you need to know, Smelly?
Smelly 08-23-2006, 12:27 AM Can they get them at Holman Death Row? My friend has never mentioned them and I dont want to bring it up if they cant get them.
I would really love to send a package and am really confused by the ADOC site. Incentive packages?
Any and all info will be much appreciated.
I luv ? in AL 08-26-2006, 02:48 AM yes they can get them, My hubby is on DR at HOLMAN, and he just told me that it is time for the hygene packages, HE STRESSED THAT THE PACKAGE CAN NOT WEIGH OVER 20 lbs, he sent me the list of all the items that can be bought and sent to him, and then he sent the list he wanted me to get, I believe it the month of Sept they have to be posted marked by a certian date, and if it is past that date the package will be rejected. yOU NEED TO ASK YOUR INMATE THE RULES AND ASK HIM TO SEND YOU THE ITEM LIST.
Smelly 08-26-2006, 06:03 PM Ok I will get on it then thanks for your reply!
Smelly 09-08-2006, 10:45 PM Turns out my friend can't get one and neither can his buddy so they must be real picky about who can get a package on Death Row:mad:
lisainengland 09-16-2006, 08:34 AM I thought all the d.r inmates could get a care package. I know that you have to be on the inmates funding/visiting list to be able to send them but apart from that I dont know of any other reason. Thats seems really nasty and unfair that only some inmates recieve them.
Have you thought about contacting the warden or Brian Corbett to see why this is happening.
Good Luck Hunni

proudmom 09-16-2006, 08:34 AM just shipped my sons quartly "incentive package" off to him.he is at Bibb.they were great about it because i LOST the form he had mailed me which had the approved stamp on it! so i called up the prison and asked what do i do? well, they told me to go ahead and send it and if he is on the list to receive one ,they will go ahead and give it to him.so,i did,and they did.i'm not used to such nice treatment from ADOC! my question is: christmas is coming up. my son was not at Bibb last year at christmas.can anyone whose loved one was tell me anything about the christmas package that i believe has to ordered from a company? what kinds of things are in the package, the cost ,any info about the company would be appreciated.also ,about when will they,or we get notice of it?
ginurse2345 09-17-2006, 03:45 PM My brother is in Ventress. He has been okd to receive a package but I lost my list. Does anyone have a list I can get? The deadline is at the end of the month.
Thanks:confused:
Smelly 09-17-2006, 06:16 PM Its seems as though they have slightly different rules for each prison and sometimes slightly different rules from inmate to inmate. It is all very very confusing to me. My friend told me the deadline was October 3 but please please please do not go by that shoot for Sept 30 at the latest.
If all else fails you could go by the Holman list that is posted if something is not right for Ventress I believe they wouldnt do anything other then simply not allow him to have that item.

Hi there, I just posted about the Christmas package ordering procedures and cost in another thread in here so I'll not repeat that part, but it's here:

Usually they will hand out the order forms to the inmates around the end of October or shortly after the first of November, but as long as they're approved for a package - and if they go with the same company this year, I don't remember the name of the company - you can order off the Web as soon as ADOC puts the link up on their website as long as you have a credit card and their AIS number. Otherwise you can just order when he sends you the form (if yours is like mine you'll need the form anyway since they'll have checked off everything they want you to order ;) ).
The company generally ships to the entire ADOC in two shipments - last year I think most that were ordered between 11/1 and 11/15 were shipped the first week of December, and the ones ordered between 11/15 and 11/30 (usually cutoff date for ordering) were shipped to arrive at the facilities around the 15th or thereabouts.
As for what's in the package, it's mainly snacky stuff - crackers, summer sausage, cheese and spreads, candy and chocolates, nuts - but also a pretty large variety of other stuff. Cereal, dry milk, soups, condiments, and some microwaveable meals kind of like those non-refrigerated Dinty Moore ones at the store - I think last year they had BBQ pork, roast beef, and chicken or something. They did not have coffee last year which was a big disappointment, but they did have cappucino envelopes. More stuff that's just not coming to mind right now.
It's really not too bad a deal for the most part - if my guy was not a bottomless pit when it comes to food ;) it'd have lasted him ages but it lasted him a pretty good run as it was. So we were able to get a pretty large amount of food for the money, and if he had not been a chocoholic and wanted 2 bags of Hershey's Miniatures, which were $9 a bag and about the most expensive thing on there, that $18 probably would have bought 9 or 10 or 11 more items. Most of the items are off-brand/generic-type items but they do have some stuff like the Hershey's Miniatures and a few other things like that.
Hope that helps! :)
