The Hsinchu Prison plans to start training a few "canine teachers." In addition to introducing some stray dogs into the prison to help in the rehabilitation of prisoners, some of the prisoners who have experience with dogs will be able to take part in feeding, managing and training them. The aim is to nurture a sense of accomplishment in the inmates who are caring for the dogs and also to boost their self confidence. Officials at the prison also hope to cultivate a love for animals among the prisoners, which is expected to help re-orientate the character of prisoners from violence to a concern for other living things. Officials hope the prisoners will also learn to cherish life.
