Can anyone give me any information about how visitation and such goes at 1200 Baker Street. My husband has been in 701 N. San Jacinto and 1307 Baker Street before about 8 years ago and was in 701 again and they just transferred him to 1200 Baker Street this morning. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well visitation at this location is actually not that bad. Make sure you have his info with you and when you get their, fill out a piece of paper with his name and number on it (bring a pen)...like you have to do at the other jails. Then once you are called up, give them your license and his info that you filled out. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NO WARRENTS......Don't bring in a purse or anything but the car keys and license with you....they don't have lockers at this one! Then you will be sent to a door where there are like 10-15 chairs...it is extremly loud and ...well since you have been to the others you know you have to scream through those things in the glass. My son was in Baker Street for four months. Here is what I can share with you

I usually only went early mornings on the weekends. His g/f went during the week after work and did wait much longer. I chose the weekends early as there weren't as many people visiting and a little easier to hear.

Dress sensibly. Nothing revealing. There are lockers to the right hand side of the entry. For 25 cents you can lock up your purse, cell, etc.. I usually took a plastic baggie to hold my license, pen, tissue and some gum. To the far back right side of the officers glass there is a small table that has the slips that must be filled out (grab some extra and you can fill them out in advance to skip this step to save time for the future) - fill it out with your inmate info. You must know what floor and spin number. Go back and stand in line in front of the glass front. When you're called make sure you have your license available and as was already said - don't go up there with any outstanding warrants. Then you go to your left to walk thru the detector. I usually put my jewelry in my plastic bag before hand so as not to set the thing off. I would go through once with my shoes on but must admit most shoes set it off. Then you just go to the elevator, at the floor slip your white piece of paper with inmate info through the window and wait. While you're waiting I would check out the positioning of other visitors. Some of the "intercoms" didn't seem to work well. I did use a tissue or "clean wipe" to wipe down the "intercom" as you almost always had to have your mouth right by it for them to hear you.

Hope this helps some. The first time I was very intimidated but found that as long as I was friendly and dressed conservatively no problem. One time the officer even gave us double visiting time. Forty minutes instead of twenty!!! whoooo-hooo

Oh, by the way - when you find Baker St. there is parking at the end. The parking is $3.00 sso make sure you take some singles to push in the slot!

Follow the rules they have there, don't bring cell fones, coins, lighters, cigs and make sure the clothing you wear is acceptable IE no tank tops, etc. Your Id must be valid, non expired and if you have any tickets, etc they will deny you a visit and you can't come back till its taken care of. I see this everyday at Baker St and I visit 3 times a week or more.

I am wondering why have they been transfering inmates out of 701 to Baker street? Does anyone have the answer to that?

Tex from what I understand my husband said all of the inmates they have transferred to his dorm as well as some the took out of 701 after him that he knew were on meds. My husband saw the psychiatrist and was put on meds while in jail. Dunno if this is the case though.

Harris county has been told to transfer some of the inmates to another jail or to other counties due to over crowding, whenever they do this process alot of the overcrowding should be handled but I doubt it

I know they have been told to move inmates but has this gone into effect? past few evenings I have been their the lines have been short.
My son tells me the cell blocks have been holding less inmates per pod.

They must be moving them cuz the state ordered them too yet the big wig is appealing saying that they dont need to be moved that they need more officers, etc.

So you tell me, is it the big wig or does anyone really care?

Baker Street jail, in my opinion, is much better then the county jail (san jacinto)... my brother in law was in there and it looked alot cleaner... however it was alot more crowded (at least when i went to visit).... talk about leaning all up on the glass where you talk at just to hear.... and i agree with so many who say to bring a cleaning wipe... b/c you don't know who's mouth has been there and spit... eewwwwww....

oh, and the parking, io swear the city needs to do something with re-paving the parkign area...... big ol' holes and you and you're car can fall into...

other then that... just be sure to wear clothes that are not revealing, bring your ID and a pen....

my boyfriend is in harris county jail and is wanting me so bad to come visit him, but i live in kansas and he told me that visit though every day are only 15 mins...i know when he was locked up in huntsville my visits with him were 4 hours because i live out of state. is there anything you can do to get longer visits?

Not in County!! but the good thing is you can go see him everyday.

Nope they wont budge on longer visits no matter where u are coming from.

I have actually seen a man ask for a longer visit due to him traveling from another state and the guards did allow it. It all depends on what guard you ask and in most cases they will allow it. I would call first to confirm. Jeannie

I'm from Germany and I had visit my fiancee every day as long as I was in Houston. I asked the officer on the floor about a "special visit" and told him, that I'm from another country and that I must leave soon.
He allowed me too times 15 min. more. But that was it!

HARRIS COUNTY JAIL - 1200 BAKER ST

VISITATION HOURS--

Monday through Friday: 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Saturday, Sunday and Holidays: 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM

Inmates are only allowed one visit per day.

When you go in, walk to the right side and there is a tiny metal table with paper and pens on it. You will have to fill out a visitation request form. There is a sample taped on the window for you to follow.

Fill it out and ask someone which window line you should stand in.

You will present the white slip and your drivers license to the officer at the window who will do a warrant check on you and then initial your slip approving your visit.

Then you get in the metal detector line to be checked before getting on the elevator to go to your floor.

I used to arrive right at 6:PM and rarely had to wait long.

Visitation at Harris County is through a metal grate in a window. VERY hard to hear so everyone yells making it even harder to hear.

vistation is from 5 to 9 Mon - Sun and then on Sat and Sun you get morning visits as well which is from 8 to 11. You can only take in your keys and a pen if you want because you have to fill out a little form helps knowing his spn number that way you don't have to look through the book. Also make sure you don't have any warrants because you have to give the deputy your DL when you go up there and they check on that I've actually seen someone get arrested because of warrants. Once you go throught the medal detector you can go up to the floor they are on and give your little form to the deputy in the window then you just wait for them to come out and let me tell you they DO NOT make it comfortable for the visitors but then again we are talking about a jail. Your visit should be about 15 or 20 minutes but sometimes they cut it short....hope this helps.
