hello,

i have a friend currently in ad seg at donovan.

i'm new to this site and life! i have many questions, but i'll start with the most important. i haven't received a letter in a week plus! it usually takes about 4 days from the time i mail a letter to the time i receive one. i have sent one letter and two cards. i am trying to be patient, but i am worried. is he getting my mail? has anyone had experience with ad seg, specifically at donovan?

any information on donovan would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hello cherrymuffin! Welcome to PTO! I'm not familiar with Donovan, but I think mail is running very slow at other prisons. I know CSATF for sure. I hope someone will be by soon to help you answer your question!

my ol man is at Donovan too. the mail is a little slow but I usually get his mail within 5 days. They have alot of rules about their mail. no more than 20 stamps but there needs to be a envolope for each, 10 photos per envolope, only 5 pages from internet(info, drawings ext) nothing can be sent out of a book or magizine, up to 3 mag/books from vendor only-and only if they are on the main line.Theres more if you want it..........

Hello everyone,

My daughter's boyfriend just entered reception at RJ Donovan last Thursday. I have called a couple of times to get his CDC number and have been told he doesn't have one yet. However I would like to send him some stamps, envelopes, and paper and any other supplies that are allowed. Could someone tell me what I can send him in reception? What kind of stamps and how many? Any supplies such as clear shampoo, deorderant, and toothpaste?

I really appreciate any help. I have no exposure to prison.

:-)

Hi and Welcome to PTO!

You could send him stamps I think about 20 but what I rather send are pre-stamped envelopes (20) that way he'll have the 2 in 1. You could send him lined paper still wrapped from the store I think you could send up to 100 sheets, many people say 50 but I've sent up to 100. You can't send him supplies, you need to send him a money order so that he can go to store in there and get his own supplies. When they first arrive they give them enough supplies for the moment. About the cdc all I can say is keep calling until they give you one. Good luck!

I am new to the site, found my lost love after 34 years, he has been down 25 and 13 at Donovan. We meet at a halfway house in LA in 72' he is the "love of my life". Ladies, can you imagine finding the man of your dreams after all this time and he is in Donovan, what a waste of human life. I never stop loving this man.

I have been out now for 22 years from federal custody and work in a law firm as a senior litigation paralegal. The feds paid for my college at UCLA anyway let me hear from anybody out there.

I am going to try an visit, but I also did time at CIW and its gonna be a big hurdle. The CDC web site says warden approval for any former inmate released after 10 years. If anybody has any input that would be helpful I would appreciate same.:)

Hey Queen06 how long your man got left? My man is in Donovan he gets out in or around September hopefully. I Plan on getting married to him as soon as he gets out so we can be together again.. I havent went to see him yet, i just havent got approved yet. Im waiting, how long does it take after you send the visitation form in? Well do you know how the packages ARE GOING YET? AND WHERE DO I FIND THE INFO ON HOW TO SEND THE PACKAGE? any info is greatly appreciated. Also how many pencils, pens, and papers can i send him, and what else can i send? Also how much money can he make due with, cuz im pregnant and cant manage to get any money, so how much can he make ends meet with in their?

My man has life and was sentenced under the indeterminate law, he has done 25 years to the board. The law says that can not keep him, but as we all now California does what it wants. Currently, there are 27,000 lifers in the system with the same status. The governor has released about 712 since he has taken office, but its not enough. Most if not all prisoners sentenced after 1977 fall into this category. A federal law suit was filed on there behalf in San Francisco last fall, but no rulings yet.

The prison system pays a few cents an hour, so you will be on your own until he gets out.

They take I believe 40% of the money that is sent to the inmate but only if there is restitution and court fees to repay. My man went in on a violation and had no hearings so he wouldn't get any %age taken out for anything.

yah my dude said nothing was taken out of his, but do you think the 30 i sent him was enough?

yeah, because they only go to the commissary 1 time a month. So he probably won't make it there again like my man.
