The House Appropriations Committee has the Corrections Budget for 2006/2007 on their Agenda for Wednesday, May 31st at 10:00 a.m. - apparently the subcommittee has finished with it. I have no idea if the surcharge language is still in the proposed budget or not and the only way to find out is to attend the meeting. Unfortunately, we are short staffed at work next week and I cannot go. Hopefully, someone from PTO can go and re-enforce our position with the Appropriations Committee and report back to us.

Did anyone happen to go? I couldn't but have been trying to keep on top of it. From what I understand the House has a different version of section 1013 than the Senate. The Houses version the 35% would only be on clothing, snacks, what is considered a luxury item but not on hygiene or stationery or med. supplies. The Senate version is on everything and it is now back in the Senate.

Even on those luxury items, the tax is a crock! If the money is to go to pay for more state police and their retirement then isn't the whole community benefitting from it? Then shouldn't the whole community foot the bill for it? Just my thoughts.
