My fiance is currently at Five Points. Before he was there he was in the box. Prior to being in the box he was medium status. I wanted to know how long before he could transfer out of his facility, and does he have to stay in the same hub for 2 years. i spoke with albany and they told me he would be eligible for status change soon. But does that mean he would be able to tranfer to a medium facility. I don't quite understand. Thanks.

If his status, classification changes to Medium he would be eligible for a transfer to a Medium.

Well i called albany and they said that his classification would change soon. But if there is no room in a medium facility, then would he have to stay where he's at?

no telling how long that would be--I have heard of almost immediate moves and those that have taken months. It all depends on openings as well as people coming into the system who need max beds.

That is right, they move him only if they have a bed for him and chances are it will be within the same HUB.

he should make sure his counsellor is aware of his area of preference-even if he is not eligible to formally ask for an area of preference. If he is changing status, it couldn't hurt.

If his status, classification changes to Medium he would be eligible for a transfer to a Medium.

If an inmate enters the system MAX status, then down the line his classification changes to MED. He will be moved to a MED prison. However, if he goes to SHU for an extended amount of time (31 days or more) his classification will change to what it was when he entered the system. So if he entered the system a MAX changed to MED then SHU he comes out of SHU a MAX. The MAX status may be short lived and moved to MED rather quickly.

If an inmate enters the system a MED, goes to SHU he comes out a MED.

Well he went in as mex, them went dowm to med then went to the box. Came out max again and now after a year he is going to be med again. As far as i know his counseler is aware of his preference. Does that have any impact on where he would get transfered?

Okanother question about transfers, when they are transfered can they choose to be transfered to a different hub or do they have to stay in the same one. Also how long after they are in do they qualify for transfer? Do they usually get the place they have chosen? Thanks guys!

Hello, i have a tranfer question too. My man was kicked out of Eastern and sent to the box for 3 months. He was shipped to Coxsackie CC. The counselor told him if he said out of trouble for 6 months he would be in 6 months. Six months came and went. Then she says he'll have to wait until sept. Sept came and went. He had sent me a phone of the person who is in charge of transfers in Coxsackie. She told me he will be elibgle this past January. I call her this january. it was hard to get in touch her. i think she is avoided me. I finally got in touch with her right, She then tells me that he not eligble for a transfer until june. What kind of mess is that. My muslim sister told me to start to bug the head of the State jail, govenor and counsil men in my state. Should i call back and raise hell, write to these officals and head the of state jail or wait until June to see what she says next? I don't know what to do.

Hi, if they put in for a preference transfer, they get to pick 3 places and they are put into one of those 3 places when a bed opens up. If they are being transferred by the jail and it's not because they put in for a preference transfer, then they usually go anywhere there is a bed - it could be the same hub or a different hub. If their classification drops, they are usually transferred to the same hub but I don't think that's a definite rule - they can pretty much be transferred anywhere.

If he's in a max, he's eligible for a transfer after 6 months in one hub. If he's in a medium, he's eligible after 2 years in the same hub.

I think that's how it is. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong. :)
