Hi!

My name is Amber and I'm 22. I'm a college student from Oregon and I've been lurking around Prison Talk for awhile now and am just starting to get more involved in actually posting. Of course I've got questions right from the beginning!

I have a pp on DR in TX and have questions. I'm hoping some of you can offer some ideas! He's a young guy and our letters have recently turned towards talking about his sentence. He says he is innocent and all of the information he provides on his website seems to back that up. He says if he does not find a way to raise the money for an investigator/legal help soon then the chances are a lot better for them murdering him. If he cannot gain legal assistance then the fastest they can murder him is around 2 years from now. If he can raise the money within the next couple of months or so then it is unlikely that the state will ever be able to execute him and chances are he will be free within a year or so.

I feel bad because I'm not in a position to help him financially fitting the typical broke college student image. If anyone out there has any ideas they will be greatly appreciated! If anyone is interested in seeing his website with the case info, I will be glad to PM the link as I don't think it would be allowed on the message board. Thanks everyone!

Amber

Hi there!
Welcome to PTO and the Capital Punishment Forum.

It is one heck of a job to get off Death Row (even if you are innocent) Texas especially.

I hope that your friend has not painted you a picture with false hope.

You could try and contact The Innocence Project (http://www.innocenceproject.org/)to see if they can give you any help or advice.

Hi!

Thanks for the welcome and the link to the Innocence Project. I figured it would be tough to get off of DR, especially in TX. I am not too optimistic about it happening but I thought I would just look into some options for him and see if anything can be done. I would rather try and get rejected instead of wondering what if. Thanks again!

The reason that there are so many on DR is that they had incompetant public defenders to begin with. Chances are good to excellent that many of them with a reputable attorney would have never ended up on the row.
I agree with a former poster. Contact The Innocence Project. Good luck to you.
