My brother has been in Millhaven reception for over 4 months. Other guys come in and are assessed immediately and then moved to the mother institutions. My brother however is still there. They have told him that they are moving him to Bath (like 4 weeks ago) and still nothing. There are guys there that got there a long while after him and have now left. I believe they are doing this on purpose. Does anyone know how long they can keep you in reception for? His parole hearing is in June and I don't know if they will still give him one seeing he is still at reception. Any answers would be greatly aprreciated.

I'm sorry for what you are going through. I know it is very frustrating! We went through the same thing with ringo - I forget how long it took but it was way over the time it was supposed to take - and when he was finally given his placement he had to wait even longer for a bed to become available there. Has he spoken to his IPO? I would suggest that would be a good place to start.
In the meantime here is a link to a previous post for information regarding the reception process. http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=171387
Good luck!

Thanks for your response Ringoswife.....He did see his IPO last month, but truly I do believe they are just playing games with him. They told him that he would be the next one to go to his mother institution as soon as a bed became available and they have shipped 5 other inmates this week to the same place where he should be going, and they arrived at Millhaven quite some time after him. Do you think a lawyer would help speed the process? Also do you know if there is a time frame in which they can keep you. It is just so frustrating.

My husband was in reception for 60 days before they moved him to Bath. There is a time frame that they are suppose to follow but obviously thats not happening in your brothers case. I also heard that there was some kind of a protest going on with the inmates at Milhaven, maybe that is causing some kind of a slow down? Good luck and I hope that he is moved soon.

a lot of factors come in to play and not always "injustice" repeat offenders, returns, parole revoctions, programs, incompatables etc etc all come into to play, i hear 6 months can be the norm from reception to mother instituition sit back and relax sometimes it is the peace he may get depending on what jail he is going to
