My boyfriend is currently at the Vernon C. Bain Center, I can't find much info on this facility. Do any of you know about visiting there, and what rules they may have about visiting,or bringing cell phones or anything? Any info you can give me I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Missy

Hey Missy,
Well VCBC is in Hunts Point. I never went for a visit but I've been their to drop off cash. You walk up the gate, show id, and then proceed to the boathouse. You walk up this little path (ever seen Carlito's Way??) and then proceed either to the visit house or to do official business to the left. I guess the same rules apply as in Rikers' no electronics(cell phones) or contraband. Their visits schedule is the same as Rikers' depending on your mans last name. I wish my man would've been there instead of Rikers'. It's doesnt look that bad. Well, hope this helpful.

I would like to know if there is a cash drop off or can I use a check, credit, debit card or just money order. Never been through anything like this and I dont really know what to do. Tried calling the facility and they are very rude and dont want to answer questions. He has been in there since the beginning of march with no help from anyone and it's killing me because I dont know what to do or how to help him. I would appreciate any answers and advice. Thank you.

VCBC is an extension of Rikers located in Hunts point. Like someone stated earlier the visit go according to your loved ones last name. Please do not bring a phone or any type of electronics. They don't have lockers on the outside like Rikers so leave them home. As far as getting married, once paper work is filled out I would call the counselor and see what the time frame is. If the process is anything like Rikers then the city clerk comes into the facility once every month to complete paperwork before you go down and get the license. Again I don't know how long this could take because nothing is consistent in these places.
Oh yeah and you can send money orders or drop it off on anyday, no checks. Also if you go online and create a profile with jpay.com it will be even easier to send money.

I've been there. When I was there you could drop money off before 3 p.m otherwise they wouldn't receive it until the next day. And yeah the seats and tables are horrible, little round seats and tables that look like they belong in a day care. To get there you take the 6 train to Hunt's Point and take the 6 bus to the last stop or take the 2 or 5 train to Simpson and walk a few blocks to catch the 6 bus. Do not bring anything with you! Nothing is allowed in. Anyone who has been to Riker's when they were out of locker's knows what to do and I'm not talking about leaving your stuff with the people on the snack truck or van guys.;)
