Hello Europe :)
I have a friend and she is engaged to a man in U.S prison. The thing is that he married a girl from England to help her get a green card. After they got married the missy vanished. She never used her green card and she is probably back in England. Needless to say my friend and her fiance would like to find this woman so he can get a divorce. But where do they start to find her? Anyone with some brilliant ideas??

I'm from England but it's something I've never tried I'm afraid. Perhaps if you could give us as much info as you can married name, maiden name, area she's from etc. someone may live near and could check telephone directories etc.
I've tried to look up sites on the Internet but can't find anything. I don't think there is as much public info on the net for the UK as there is in the States.
On second thoughts, I can understand if you don't want to post info on a forum, so if you could just tell us the area she is from and then one of us could PM you for more info. This is presuming she went back to where she lived previously. Has her husband got an old address you could start from?
Good luck!

hi !
this is the only thing I came up with.I found it on the webpage of the german embassy in the UK.
If a person for personal reasons is looked for, one can turn (in English) to the "section OF Social Security" with the request to pass an openly attached letter on to the looked for person. Because the "section OF Social Security" reacts only to inquiries, which come for purely private--personal reasons, these reasons in writing should be sufficiently occupied:
Department of Social Security (DSS)
Special Section A
Records Branch
GB-Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Thank you both very much! I have passed this information to my friend and I hope she can locate this woman! My friend will probably post here herself and let you know how her search went :)

In the USA if a person does not know where or how to contact a mate, there are ways around that to get a divorce.
Each State has there laws on this issue and he should find out what they are in the State he will be filling in.

Hi B-Ray
Thank you for the information - we are defenitely going to check on that! The certificate was issued by Franklin Court, Ohio, so that must be the place to do some research on the subject.

The divorce can be filed in any State. The law of that State is what you will be working with.
In California, if a partner's whereabouts is unknown, an ad in the local news paper of where he/she was last known to live and run for 30 days, is enough to satisfy the court.
These laws do change, so you will need the current (2003) laws of that State. You might get some answers by doing a search like "State name divorse laws" ie "California divorce laws".

If you know which area the person you're looking for is from in the UK you should be able to look up the Electoral Roll for that area. All these Rolls are open to the public and it's one easy way you might be able to find her.
I'm sorry a countrywoman of mine acted in such a despicable way.
