Have your love one either request a print out of his visitors list or have him talk to his councelor and have him pull up his visitors list on the computer to see if you're approved to visit.

You should be approved now wherever he goes. But when mine was transferred, I called the visiting office and asked them to look it up and they said I was OK. Maybe I was lucky...

Once you are in the system you are approved wherever you go. However God knows that they make clerical errors all the time. If you have the letter from the prison that says you were approved take it with you when you go.

Do you have a number to visitation department?????

to call to make an appointment:
Mon - Wed, 11am - 1pm only 559-935-3780

To talk to someone:
559-935-4900 ext 5708 (but don't call it during appointment times)
559-935-4900 ext 5712 is the visiting Lt.

Once you have approval (from Wasco) you can visit the same inmate anywhere in the state prison system. Take your letter with you on your first visit.

You can visit Sat and/or Sun. Visiting appointments are on the quarter hour starting, I think, at 8:30 am through 10am. If you don't make an appointment you can still visit. You need to get there early and wait in line. Some people show up as early as 5am (Oy). They wait in their cars at the gate. When the officer starts letting people in for appointments only, they will give a numbered ticket to those who don't have an appointment.
After all of the appointments are processed, then the officer will start calling the numbers on the tickets. It usually is a quick process, lately.
Follow the rules, bring only what they say you can bring in, don't wear a metal underwire bra (sets the alarm off), wear slip on shoes (it's easier), dress appropriately, bring in your drivers lic., one car key (without any thing on it -alarm thang, etc), a closed pkg of travel size tissues, up to 10 4x6 max sized pictures, and up to $30 of quarters, unwrapped. Oh, no hooded jackets or umbrellas. Learn what colors you can and cannot wear. There is a trailer called "friends outside" where you can stay when waiting. They have a restroom, TV, magazines, coffee, clothes to use if you are dressed wrong.
Once you go for the first time, it will get easier. If he is on close A status, make sure you get in before 10:30am. Otherwise you will sit and wait until 12:15 until he shows up. Close A is for those who are sentence to a long time.
When/if you call the prison, make sure you always have his CDC number ready. They are nice people at the other end of the phone. If you know he is there now, you can call and press ext 0. Ask for records. They will tell you his housing and how to address the envelope. They can tell you his counselors name too. Read through the "sticky" at the beginning of the PVSP posts. There is allot of information to help also.
Good Luck and enjoy your visit. -C
