View Full Version : USP Terre Haute ~ Lock Down
kintml2u 05-06-2006, 08:35 PM Not sure why...but something happened on Thursday and it was mentioned they might possibly lock down.
So if anyone is wondering why they have not received a call...this could be why.

Thanks for posting here. ;)
Like I said before, saying a little prayer for the folks involved in whatever happened....and all too.
Oh I can just imagine what my guy is thinking after the last go 'round w/ the phone........ "Doni's gonna be ticked offfffff. I was supposed to call Thursday or Friday and I just KNOW she waited." Yup, I'm like a worm in his head :D . I'm really thankful that you wrote about this though.... because he's right (inside his head).... I would have had all sorts of negative feelings. It was his turn to give me a little support.... but ya know what... he cannot help a lockdown.... and THAT I can surely understand.
He did send a BEAUTIFUL letter of support, timed perfectly. He knew the timing.... and he did great.
Support goes two ways..... and I think he's pretty terrific for writing to me, the way he did, and when he did.
God bless whomever had trouble at USP Terre Haute. I hope all is well.
I wonder when a "lockdown" usually ends.
Blessings,
Doni
kintml2u 05-06-2006, 11:52 PM It's hard to guess...how long it last. But I am sure as soon as they can...they will call.
And I like you...would have been thinking other thoughts without the warning call. Only..my thoughts would have been more like 'whats he done now'. :D
Wantin2BHis 05-07-2006, 12:30 AM Thanks for posting this! I need to say a prayer for my baby.
kintml2u 05-07-2006, 09:35 AM Sure thang...
kintml2u 05-07-2006, 11:02 AM Not on lock down...or atleast my guys unit.
This doesn't mean there is no lock down...there still could be something prevented calls on other units.
Do these units have NAMES or numbers or something?
Cuz if my guys unit is not on lock down....then ........ he's in hot soup again. lol
Thanks,
Doni
kintml2u 05-07-2006, 12:02 PM Doni...the worst things we can do is jump into conclusions!
Not sure they are even called units, pods, tiers....but there is some type of separation.
Ahhh, lol, really I'm not upset. See we had just had this misunderstanding whereas he was gonna call for a specific reason.... I didn't hear from him on the phone....letters came though and they didn't mention the phone...so I had rescheduled this ---- if of course everything was ok....ie: no lockdowns, could get to the phones, etc. He didn't call & no explaination...so I snarled at him in a letter. He snarled back saying my phone had a block on it and he tried it MANY times. I didn't know you had to get your phone UNBLOCKED from CorrectionalBillingServices ---- because he WAS allowed to call from county. Soooooo, we got that straightened out.... hugged through a letter (LOL) and we set this up for last Thursday or Friday. THEN as you know 'something' (probably) happened somewhere. ~~~ So I'm not freaking or anything. I expect I'll get a letter in my mailbox tomorrow saying what's going on. If not tomorrow, then Tuesday. If I hear anything I'll post to the thread.
He calls HIS area a "unit" by the way. He referenced other UNITS.... so maybe this is what they're referred to. I thought it would be kinda PTO-cool to know the name or # of the unit so we could see if any of our guys are in the same units.
Ok....off to Mum/Pop's house.
Thanks for the updates. They're really appreciated!
Blessings,
Doni
Wantin2BHis 05-07-2006, 03:43 PM Thanks for that update. I was really worried.
bertie370 05-08-2006, 04:37 PM i have not heard from my old man in atwater either. he was supposed to call yesterday and has not. so maybe it is a system wide thing. if anyone has any information on atwater, please post it or message me.
Weird.....over the weekend, after 11pm my time.... that would be after midnight Terre Haute time, I just picked up the phone and dialed the main number. Ya know how they mumble: "Is this in regards to an inmate?" I hurridly said, "Not exactly. I understand there is a lockdown or partial lockdown. Has it been lifted." The officer said, "There is no lockdown right now." I asked if there has been a lockdown or partial lockdown... "I am not at liberty to tell you either way ma'am." I thanked him for his time and information.
On a whim..... I called today (different phone...who knows if they keep the numbers in a data base) and asked if there was a lockdown because I was expecting a very important call last Thursday or Friday. Of course I'm extra polite..... there's no need to ever be rude or nasty .... they're doing their jobs on the phone, that's all.
The officer today said he could not give me ANY lockdown information for now, past or at anytime. It's against the regulations. I did tell him I'm "new to this" and thanked him for his time. I think he was a bit stunned that somebody THANKED HIM for something he couldn't tell me either way. That's ok.... like I said, he's doing his job.
It's just weird to me that the other officer had said there were no lockdowns "right now."
Then again, maybe I'm too literal in my thinking.
Kintml2u... have you heard anything? I know your guy said something was going on Thursday....then you said your fellas unit wasn't on lockdown yesterday.
Bertie....... if anything is heard...... somebody is sure to post.
THANKS FOR THE HELP AND INFO ALL.
Blessings to all,
Doni
kintml2u 05-08-2006, 05:51 PM I received a couple more calls last night right before they lock in.
Are you certain your phone is clear? I read somewhere, not sure if it was you or not, but someone mentioned Correctional Billing Services. You have to check with both them...and your local carrier. They both can place blocks on calls...and both have to lift them for calls to come through.
They do their jobs..sometimes to well...when answering the phone! But..those of us who are paid by an employer know we follow the rules and policies. Can not get mad over this. And...he actually answered wrong in my eyes...cause after midnight any night at Terre Haute..isn't every inmate locked down for the night? :D When do they lock in..like 9:15ish?
Patience...
See above........when he first WROTE that my phone was "disabled" I called MY local phone and long distance carrier. NO blocks. THEY gave me to correctionalbillingservices. CBS (lol) said I WAS blocked cuz they needed my information (duhhh, they had billed b4) since he was now in a PRISON. They unblocked me. I called and checked.
Get this CBS told me I have to call in every month to tell them my phone bill has been paid..... said, everybody does.......or put $$ into a phone fund for them to use only to the specified number. The least is $50 plus a service charge ($6.00??? $8.00). Anyway, I did check w/ them again...and DID tell them my bill was paid (it is). The recording also says my line is clear.
So they're locked down for the night at 9:15'ish? Really? Wow. I THOUGHT they had phone priv's from like 8am until 9pm local time. Don't know where I got that from. LOL
What time is GET YOUR BUTTS OUT OF BED time? Anybody know?
Also...yup, you're right, technically all were in lockdown at that time. lol Good catch. rofl
I'm still waiting on that dang call........so much to share w/ him. That last letter...... just before my big day was a Godsend. I KNOW he timed it this way...... what a sweetie.
Thanks for the help.
Blessings,
Doni
kintml2u 05-08-2006, 06:26 PM I have never-ever...had to call CBS for anything! Never made monthly calls and been at this a while. Don't know...
Are you saying local time...like WI time? :D Terre Haute is on my time for now, until we do our 'fall back' I believe. I found the 9:15'ish to be strange considering all other locations he was able to call later, if even for no other time but weekends. But in a way...I get relief from knowing things are less likely to happen during cell time.
Not sure what if there is a 'get out of bed time'.
Breakfast is about 6:30-7.
bertie370 05-08-2006, 07:15 PM i have never had to call anyone about my bill either. does this only include collect calls? my guy does not call collect, never has. i did not think that they could.
Wow, I didn't see those last 2 posts........and I had "Instant" ticked. Oh well........MY loss.
FYI....... J called last evening. He said there were intermittant lockdowns in his unit but of course doesn't know about anywhere else. He said they were weird, almost like drills. Maybe they were. Who knows.
Anyhow.......he's safe......said his area has been relitively quiet....... thank GOD. He still keeps his back "to the wall" as do most.... and prefers NOT to call because everybody likes to listen in on calls......he said, "like a bunch of lil old ladies." HEYYYYY, I told him I am 'old' and a 'lady' but don't like to listen in. He said that I'm not bored enough and definately NOT there. haha Good point.
Blessings to all,
Donna
NicknBree 06-04-2006, 10:10 PM Alright Ladies...
What units are ur men in? The Unit at USP Terre Haute is represented by a letter I think A through F and the 1 or 2 that follows the letter represents the tier they are on in the unit. Example A-2 or D1. Just curious...maybe some of our guys are in the same unit!
As a matter of fact....... I'm writing him right now.......so I'll ask him. All I know is he says he looks out his little window and has ONLY the "death house" to look at. Eww. Ick. How depressing.
I'll let cha know when he answers.
Blessings...........good post!
Doni
kintml2u 06-05-2006, 05:16 AM Not sure, but I too will ask.
I am composing a list of hotels and rates in the area...and will post shortly for those who will visit and need to make lodging arrangements. The girls from Indiana have been a great help!
If I start a 'The Terre Haute USP Club' in the club house, would you all be interested? You can check out the two following clubs and see where the idea came from. It's just like a running log of information for those touched by this location...someplace to share keeping it all together.

I would absolutely LOVE to be part of a Terre Haute USP club! That would be great.
