Preferential treatment or perhaps an example of how we all should be treated ?
Statement From Rep. Patrick Kennedy Friday, May 5, 2006 (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/05/AR2006050500866.html)

both. it's ludicris at best the ways that the politicians and their offspring are treated differently than the rest of us. there is a local man here in WI facing
92 yrs in states chrges, plus federal for x. granted, it was a large quantity, but it still bugs the sh*t out of me.

also, there has been quite a bit of buzz lately as to the safety of the sleeping pill, Ambien and its last effects.

but of course the lobbyists for pharmaceuticals don't want the bad press, therefore you don't hear or read very often about the very real dangers of Ambien and many others new patents released each year. my mother had a massive stroke at forty one from OTC diet pills and an antihistamine. another point to ponder in this mess. lastly would we even hear about this, if it wasn't a Kennedy?

A very good point, BillieJo--plenty of people are arrested for DWI every day and that doesn't make the news. Many others are simply given a ride home, and that doesn't raise many eyebrows. But throw the Kennedy name into the picture and you'd think the sky was falling.
Mind, I cannot help but wonder if Rush Limbaugh has aimed a rant at him yet, or claimed that a "liberal conspiracy" was at work. I would not be a bit surprised.

As far as I understand its not the sleeping pills he is addicted too. He has already been in rehab and has now returned. His addiction is to pharma drugs but its more than just the sleeping pills which was the 'apparent' blame at the time of the accident. Im so tired of the two faced laws. There is a guy in Florida with a very serious disease that has him in a wheel chair and in terrible pain all the time. He fraudulated prescriptions in order to cope with the pain and ended up with a lengthy prison sentence. Ironically he is now on a much larger and stronger dose of pain pills via pump curtosy of the Florida Dept of Corr. To bad they couldnt deal with his disease on the outside world. How come someone who couldnt hurt a fly ends up in prison for trying to survive pain, it wasnt about addiction it was about disease not being treated properly. And then Rush and Kennedy get nothing but a bit of bad press pretty much. They were using drugs they didnt need anymore, abusing them and they ones that needed it go to prison. How about that for twisted laws. Not that I think any addict should go to prison but the system stinks as it stands now.
