I want to take a moment to Welcome everyone to PrisonTalk Online. I am still in the process of adding quite a bit of content to other regions of this website but the community discussion forums area is now fully operational.(less messages & visitors at this point)
In the following months as traffic grows, it is my hope that PrisonTalk Online will begin to fill the gap in communications between all of us in the Prison/er Support System by providing a medium everyone can use at no charge.
I understand that there are a great deal of inmate's families and friends that still do not have their own personal computer, but that day is moving towards an end. In the mean time more places of business, schools, libraries and other locations are providing free internet access every day in which we all can utilize to access information.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have.

 well David, I would like to be the first on this particular
post to say well done with setting this site up, it really must of taken up a lot of time and effort to do this, I am amazed that there have been over 100 persons viewing this post but not one of them have bothered to reply to it, well guess this is a start and is well deserved for all the time and effort that you have put in it for the good of us all. nice one. well done
and keep up the good work, you deserve it to be a success and I am sure it will be.
Its good that someone cares enough about his fellow mates and other convicts and ex- convicts or prisoners to go to all this trouble. keep up the good work.

A quick note nearly a year later!

This is the first post made at Prison Talk Online. It was made via a little Toshiba Protégé' laptop and my cellular phone while in the half-way house. :) I did most of the technical design work while I was supposed to be looking for a job. To me this was much more important and in the end I was about 10 minutes away from going back to prison for lack of having a job. Honestly, I didn't care all that much as long as I had this baby up and running. Lucky for me I had someone save my rear from the fire at the last second. The marshals arrived but I was covered.

Since this is the actual first post made on PTO, I hope everyone will agree that the official birthday of PTO is December 2nd. We're almost 1 year old now and we have come a long way in that time. I'm proud of our baby!

Wow, Four years!

I met PTO before I went in, but barely, David and the rest of our PTO family kept Linda company and supported her while I was gone.

The night I came home, she told me to log on again, and I did, after that well, David, your realizing your dream of PTO has made Linda's and my dream a reality:

No one will have to go through what we did alone.

Happy Birthday PTO! Every life you touch, every fear or pain you ease, every loved ones' heart that you ease the burden from is the reason you are here.

David, it truly has been a long road getting from there to here, it has been a long time, and because of your vision of PTO - and with the help of the PTO family you brought together - all of us know that our time will come!

Well, I guess if there is an old thread here at PTO, this is it... And I see it has been revived again... :) Thanks for the comments everyone and I feel the same about all of you...

It sure is fun looking back on things like the first post I made here (in this thread) and a lot of other peoples from the early days of PTO and thinking on just how far we have come together.. That goes for the people here from way back as well as those that joined us in year 2, 3 and now 4... ;) I hope to look back on this very thread 6 years from now and reminisce on a decade of PTO..

David,
Your proof that dreams do come true, if you want it bad enough and willing to work for it! You have touched so many lifes you will never know! It is so nice to have a place to come to where everybody understands what you are going through, or about to go through! It's a safe haven for everyone. Please excuse my spelling as I'm all tearie eyed here! It takes a person with a vision to reach out to others as you have. Thank you David for your dream and making it come true and everyone else that is helping to accomplish all this! There will never be another prisontalk any where that could ever compare to this site in any shape or form! Thanks again Cathy

Welcome to PTO DianneRog.
You have a better chance of finding answers to your questions by posting the questions in the state forum in which your daughter is incarcerated in. For instance,.. if she is incarcerated in Washington, .... post your questions in the Washington State forum. Go to the main PTO page and scroll down toward the bottom until you find Washington.
Good luck!

You will likely be in county jail - and fairly safe. Keep to yourself and you will be ok - to your daughter you will be away for a few days. Weekends are great and you will be over with it fast.

LilMama, I know it is scary, but it will be OK. Jail is not fun, of course. But it is amazing what you can learn, from being there. That no matter how bad things are, it will get better. That no matter how huge our problems seem, there are others who carry a heavier burden. Four weekends is better than forty or fifty years. You will meet some good people who have done some bad things. Like me, like many of us. You will hear their stories, and be grateful for what you have that is good in your life, like your little girl. And you will be home again for her, except for the four weekends. Hope this makes sense, just try to go with it hour by hour, and it will pass. Nothing bad lasts forever. You will be OK, and maybe even learn things about yourself that you never knew. Like strength, compassion, and appreciation for being home and free, living your life with your child. Four weekends, you can do this. Best wishes to you, Pac

Tuco

I've done weekends and I'm definitely not a morning person so that's what almost got me busted again. Those weekend work programs won't cut you a break so don't be late. Most of the time we were groundskeepers, pulling weeds, picking up trash and removing graffiti. The people who are given weekends and not straight time are usually pretty ok people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time or just made a bad choice just like me and maybe you. One weekend I worked in the main jail kitchen in San Jose which sounds ok but those co's are all the regular crew so you actually get the true feeling of being in jail. The weekend people are usually city or county employees who are a lot more cool. Anyway, no matter what you'll never look forward more to Mondays. I'm kidding its really not all that bad but really inconvenient.

Shelly,

First of all Welcome to the PTO Family.

Second deep breath, relax - you are among friends now and we will help as we can.

Have you tried the Arkansas Forum or the Headed to Prison Forum?

I would start with the Arkansas Forum and then check out Headed to Prison. You may find some general info in Headed to Prison but the more specific should be in Arkansas.

 i am glad i found a place to talk to someone/somepeople to talk/chat with about my situation. i feel like i'm in room full of friends that are going through the same thing that i am. it's nice to know i can send, respond, and get responses from people who understand everything i'm feeling, and everything i'm going through. my baby, james has been locked up in WICC since 1996, and i didn't know how to deal with it, because we had just started our relationship a year ago, he gets out next year, and i'm glad for that. but still waiting is the hardest part, but there are other things we will have to go through when he gets out, things have changed alot since he got locked up, but like isaid, i love him, and we will be fine, thx for reading...

Prison are not online, and you cannot talk to your dad here. However we can help you learn more about the system, give you support in what you are going through.

Welcome to PTO

Wow...Super interesting to see what one person's dream can accomplish for so many others!
I joined the site a few months ago....have to join the bandwagon with others...this site SAVED my sanity!! (what I have left anyway...) Anyways....can't sleep so thought I would check out the history of the site,,,,,,I am so impressed! And so very, very thankful that those of you involved in getting this site up and running persevered (to the point of almost going back to prison??) and made your dream a reality.
You have made HisStory with your generosity!

I can't thank you enough for creating this site. I knew when I found it that it was a Godsend, just didn't realize when I joined that it was 7 years old. Seven is the perfect number, all the more reason I know it was a Godsend for me to find this wonderful family. I do not think I could go through this without the PTO family. You have been my calm in the storm, my refuge from darkness and my shining light to see ahead. Thank you.

:) Dear David, I'm new to the computer as well as the site. Since you know about this site so well , could you please help me know were to find any information on the state wide shut down on visits , because of the swine flew. I really don't know if we can protest or how to go about it. If you can help me I would appreciate it alot. Thank You, ConnieMarie

David, I was completely lost one night and had nobody at all to turn to. I was searching online for something to help me and stumbled across this. It took me awhile to register and it is the best thing I could have found. I tell everyone I know in my situation about this site and how much it helps. Thank you so much.

This thread is really just here because it is such a deeply important moment in our history. It is NOT a useful spot for getting information or for connecting with other people.

Also, this site does not function "in real time" the way a chat room does- you post a message it might be a few minutes, a few hours or even a day or two before anyone replies and again, this thread is a terrible place for trying to interact.

If you scroll down the Forum Index (http://prisontalk.com/forums/index.php), you'll surely find a forum that is relevant to your interests and concerns.

Click on the forum title to enter the forum , then click on a thread title to read that thread.
Reply by either typing your reply into the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of the thread or by clicking on the "Post Reply" button just above the "Quick Reply" box, then click "Post Reply" when you've finished typing.

To create a new thread, look at the top of the thread list in any forum for a button marked "New Thread", click on that and it will open a window where you can give your thread a title and type up what you want to say or ask. When you are done, click near the bottom where it says "Submit New Thread" and your thread will be posted.

If you ever have trouble finding a post you made, go to the upper right corner of the screen and click on your name. This will take you to your profile. Then choose "Statistics", in that screen, click on "Find all post by..." and you'll get a list of all of your posts/threads.

Lastly, for now, if you ever get a message saying that your post or thread has been moved, all you have to do is click on the thread title within that message and you'll go right to the new location of your thread or post.

I just joined today and so far I haven't been able to tear myself away. I am 33 years old, the mom of 3 beautiful children and a wife to the most intelligent, loving, caring, gorge as man. He has been incarcerated for 2 months now and we have no idea for how much longer. I haven't seen or held him in so long my heart aches. Nobody understands how hard it is to wake up every morning and put a smile on my face for my kids when all I want to do is cry. I am slowly dying inside and have been holding the hurt in for all these weeks. I keep telling myself I have to be strong for him and the kids but often wonder who will be strong for me. We as woman take on so much and it is taken for granted because "that is the way it's supposed to be. I am only one person taking care of 4 not including myself. I have anxiety, depression ,ptsd and panic disorder. I have been working on it for years and come to terms with it but am afraid if I hold much more of this in I will loose all those years of finding myself and rising above it. I have come to far to loose it all now. I just need someone, anyone with an open heart who is going threw this also to share this experience with. It would help me to know it's still going to be okay. Thanks to all who took the time to read this and please feel free to lean on me, as I am a great listener.
