The other day my mother woke up to pounding on the door at 6:30 am by 2 officers who asked to see me. I went out there to see why they were there and they told me they were going to detain me. I asked on what grounds and they said violation of my probabtion. It struck me as funny because I just went to court that week in order to clear up my case. I told them that and they said well we'll clar it up at the station. I asked hat specifically this was in regards to and they said very loud DUI while my neighbors were on their way to work. They told me to tell my mom I would be calling her collect in half and hour to pick me up from the station.

Before we got in the car they decided to check the warrant # and realized this matter was recalled in Feb 2006. They asked the dispatcher to check again and she confirmed. They didn't apologize and I walked into the house finding my mom at the table crying and praying.

At that point I was furious and called the admin. dept to get the officers name. The woman on the line gave me the run around for 15 min saying there was no record of anything. She repeated until I told her that I was outside with them when they called the dispatcher and that I knew that they are required to keep records. After consulting with her coworker she said that she thinks the officer on duty that day for warrants was Officer......

I was wondering if the police have a right to be down right rude? I know I have no credibility because of my past mistakes but I was in no way being resistent. Can I report their behavior to anyone or should I let it go in this vent?

Unfortunately, it appears the police officers were acting in good faith in executing what they reasonably believed to be a valid arrest warrant. You're lucky in that they actually verified the warrant before taking you in. That would be unlikely to happen in this jurisdiction. As to rudeness, file a complaint with Internal Affairs and with the Police Department. Write a letter to the editor. Write your county or city commissioner or whatever they call them in your area. There probably won't be much done about the cops' attitudes, but at least there will be a complaint on their records. Not much satisfaction, I know. You can also talk to an attorney who handles civil rights claims to see if you have any claim against the officers and/or department. Good luck!

The Chief of Police where I live has been great about demanding his officers show respect at all times. Even when they are detaining someone. Wouldn't it be nice if all officers were that way all of the time without having to have their chief breathe down their necks. I hope your mother feels better. That can be devastating for families.
