View Full Version : as i type this......friend is self-surrendering
JaysgirlSS 04-30-2006, 10:04 PM as i type this a very good friend of mine is driving from Chicago to Morgantown West Virginia to self surrender tomorrow morning.
7 years ago he was involved in selling the club drug ectasy. 2 years ago he got a knock on his door from the DEA. He had not been involved in any legal activity for close to 5 years. The statue of limitations is 5 years so they came and questioned everyone involved right before the the statue of limitations was up.
My boyfriend as well as several other friends of mine are/have served time for selling ectasy. these are not bad guys. They all had regular jobs. They made a mistake. They are non-violent offenders. Why are we wasting tax dollars to put them in prison? All of my friends (boyfriend included) were convicted by Federal. They will never have a chance to be paroled. They will serve 85% of their sentence while those convicted by the state will serve a day for a day. It's just not fair!
discoball 04-30-2006, 10:57 PM some one got a political bug up their *ss and off your man goes. he did something wrong but i believe he and the state/community is better served by house arrest or comm. service or something that doesnt send one more person to prison. sorry the system doesnt see it that way. the more i see on this sight, the more my eyes are open to how unjust the "justice" system is. at least you found us, sorry that isnt any consolation
witchlinblue 04-30-2006, 11:36 PM FYI, not all states have 'day for a day'. For example Michigan.

I should have been more specific.
Illinois is day for day.
BabyBooWV 05-01-2006, 07:19 AM My man is in Morgantown West Virginia. It isn't a bad place. We call it the federal cup cake camp if that tells you anything. Don't get me wrong any time is not good but I am glad that my man is there instead of any where else. If he has to be away Morgantown is the place I want him to be.
JaysgirlSS 05-01-2006, 07:56 AM I have heard that Morgantown is a nice FPC.
So I'm happy that my friend is going to a good place.
sadly, my BF is in Terre Haute.
He's at the camp but from what we have been told Terre Haute is at the bottom of the list. I heard that 2 years ago it was rated the 2nd worst camp in the federal system. But luckily it's only 250 miles from me.
Csmcgrl23 05-01-2006, 08:16 AM The war on drugs is failing badly but the government doesn't put it as a priority to fix their own mistakes....it sucks. ALOT of people are sitting in Federal prison because of the war on drugs. We all need to do our part to get Federal Parole reinstated and we all need to VOTE to get people into office that will reform the war on drugs because it's just not working. Our government just looks to put as many people in prison as possible and not only are peoples lives messed up because they got years for selling Esctasy at a party but we (ones on the outside) are paying for it with our taxes....something has to change.....one voice can turn into many voices and one day we WILL make a change!!!
BabyBooWV 05-01-2006, 02:03 PM Morgantown is an FCI (Federal Correctional Institute) not a FPC
LI`L SIS 05-01-2006, 02:43 PM There Are So Many Problems With The "war On Drugs." I Can`t See How They Can Fix Things Unless They Scrap The Whole Mess And Start Over. As I`ve Said Many Times Before, The Entire System Sucks!!!! Until They Treat Drug Addiction Like The Disease It Is, We`re All Left With A Huge Hole In Our Lives. Our Government Makes To Much Money On The Illegal Drug Activities In The U.s. So The Problem Continues Until ........i Wish I Knew.

chickletone 05-01-2006, 02:45 PM Other States don't go day for day,Ms. is one of those unfortunatly for my son. I'm fighting with alot of others to get government to sign and pass bills H.R.1704 and H.R.3072.
chickletone 05-01-2006, 03:27 PM And also I have 2 friends that plead guilty on drug charges, after they go to Iowa for proscessing they will serve their time a Federal prison 400 miles away from where they sold the drugs. Who do you think that hurts? They're Moms, Dads, children, and girl friends. How are those families suppose to stay strong together?
witchlinblue 05-01-2006, 10:21 PM sadly, my BF is in Terre Haute.

That is so such a uncomfortable thing, to know that your loved one is in not a very nice place. Well no prison or camp is nice but when you know its considered worse than many then that is a big worry. My heart goes out to you and your BF.
mandy2002 05-01-2006, 10:36 PM I am very sorry to hear about all that is goin on in your life. I too know how it feels to see a loved on get put behind bars. I still can not figure out what good it is going to go someone to put them away and more less throw away the key. I dont see how it is going to help them. My ex who is still my best friend has done 7 1/2 years in Missouri Department of corrections. He is currently doing time for probation violations, we are hopeing that he gets sent to OCC or Maryville but its not looking to promising. Its even harder seeing the look on his oldest daughters face knowing how long shes done with out her daddy already, and now not only do i have his 7 year old to explain this too but soon i will have to explain it to our daughter who is 8 months old. I honestly dont believe prison helps anyone, all it does is keep them locked away because they sure in the H*ll dont help them in there. I also believe that the statue of limitation law is a bunch of sh*t. I mean who can you convict and punish someone for something they did years back, people change and the governement doesnt even give them chance to go on. Again im sorry to hear about your boyfriend and friends. You guys will sure be in my thoughts.

JaysgirlSS 05-02-2006, 09:01 PM I can honestly say that my boyfriend as well as our friend are both guilty of committing a crime. And both deserved to be punished. However, both spent over 2 years on supervised release before they began serving time. Both were working. Both had become "productive" members of the community and no longer had any involvement with drugs.
Jay was 34 when he went in and will be 36 when he's released. Our friend is currently 43 and will be 44 at the time of his release. Because I choose to remain with Jay I am taking care of things so that he has a car and a place to live when he gets out. Our friend's girlfriend left him 2 days before he surrendered.
cavgtmom 05-02-2006, 10:09 PM i really feel for you and completely understand. my husband is self-surrendering on the 30th and we asked that he be put in a camp 8 hours away rather than be in terre haute, and i live in south bend. his was also an ecstasy charge. he was trying to get us out of a huge hole and made a huge mistake. yes, a crime, but like everyone here has said, this war on drugs will never be "won" because the government will lose too much money, and they are fighting it all wrong. i'm not going to get started because i could go on for hours, but the more i'm learning, the more i'm blown away by the stupidity of our government. meanwhile, it's the kids and i, and his family that are being punished the most out of the deal.
hugs,
amy

Amy- I agree with you. The more I learn about the war on drugs the more disgusted I become with the way it's being handled.
I am sorry to hear that your Husband will some be a guest at what those there call, "Happy Camp." I'll be honest though, while I feel for Jay and others in Terre Haute because I know that many of the other federal camps are nicer I still feel that it is prison. And it should not be like a stay at summer camp.
When is your husband surrendering?
sblvsmb 05-09-2006, 01:54 PM I'm sorry to hear of such harsh sentences ~ why did they have to serve time AFTER doing 2 years of supervised release?
((HUGS))
mm406 05-16-2006, 11:15 PM I am using my boyfriends log in now because he is self surrendering in Sheridan OR tomorrow... I am not sure how to re register, and I am holding on to as much of him as I can.
He will serve 65 months in Fed. prison for marijuana... another non violent offender who could be a productive member of society contributing tax dollars instead of being a burden on the system. There are people who are dangerous to communities, child molesters, rapists, killers and those distributing very detrimental drugs. The system is way out of whack!
