How long has it been since your guys have been moved from County? My husband just moved from Rikers and he had some money left over in there. When should we start worrying that they aren't going to send it? I read that it sometimes takes months but I'm not sure how long is too long.

I hope you guys get your money!

He left county 2 months ago. He didn't wait because he wanted to make sure they knew where he was. As long as DOC knows that an inmate or his/her family has proof that they've been contacted about a situation they usually do their job. As soon as he gets to his facility have him write a notarized and certified letter to the county jail, also have him send you a copy stating that he gives you permission to collect all property left and money just in case they ignore his letter.

I JUST SENT A LETTER, SIGNED HIS NAME, AND MAILED IT TO "INMATE ACCOUNTS" BUT NOT CERTIFIED MAIL. HE ALSO MAILED A LETTER FROM THE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (SAME ONE I MAILED). IM HOPING IF THEY RECEIVE TWO, IT WOULD WORK AND THEY SEND THE MONEY. HE GOT OVER $100 IN THAT ACCOUNT. THEY KEEP TELLING ME THEY ARE A SEPARATE ENTITY THAN STATE. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP FORUM!

I'll wait and see what happens and if in about 2 or 3 months he doesn't get his money I'll write a letter and tell him to write one. Moe or New, can you post the address you sent the letter to? Thanks. :)

I Sent The Letter To The House He Was In - A.k.m.c. 18-18 Hazen Street, East Elmhurst, Ny. I Hope That Helps. I Forgot The Zip (sorry).

I don't know if anyone had their husbands money sent to their final destination from Rikers Island but I am checking to see if they heard a response. I did the return receipt thing and sent several letters and still my husband has not received any money from the account at Rikers. If anyone is having the same problem or their problem was solved, can you let me in on what you've done to get some action or response from Rikers.

I never sent the letter and my husband's money still hasn't been transferred but it hasn't even been a month (It'll be a month on May 3rd). Also, he just got to his prison (out of reception) recently so maybe it should transfer over sometime soon. His money from reception hasn't transfered over to his prison yet either and I thought that would be quicker. It has been 2 weeks. He has commissary on Thursday and he gets to see what is in his account then so hopefully some money from somewhere has transfered over.

Just wanted to let eveyrone know that is having problems getting the money from Rikers Island. I finally got hold of someone that was very helpful. In order for your man to get the money left in the account, YOUR MAN/HUSBAND has to send a letter in the ENVELOPE of the correctional facility he is in to request the money asking them to cut a check to the facility imprinted on the envelope. If he doesn't want to do that, he would have to go to the law library and make his wife/girl his POWER OF ATTORNEY and then they will release the money to the wife/girl. I think this is a bunch of crap but who am I to say. I hope this helps!!!:D

That is utterly ridiculous!! When my husband left Rikers in early 2003 his money followed him. We did not have to do all of this craziness mentioned in the post just above mine!! It's so funny how the things that need changing don't get changed but the things that don't need changing does get changed. :slap:

So if he doesn't send a letter they just keep his money? How convenient of them to make this change.

I'm going to tell my husband to send the letter today.

My husband sent me an envelope and I mailed the standard letter today. I hope he finally gets it. I also agree. Things that don't need to be changed they change it and make it more difficult for people to manage. But I called and spoke very nicely to the people and finally got someone that helped me. Whats surprising is they got all my letters that I did send but didn't respond to any of them. I had to call to find out this information. Go figure!

Moe, just letting you know my husband got his money from Rikers. He left Rikers on April 3rd and got his money this week that just passed. We didn't do anything, the money just followed him. It took some time but they got it to him. (It took a little less than 2 months). I hope yours gets his $$ soon too. :)
