Rikers guard pleads in drug rap
A Rikers Island guard at the center of a sex-for-drugs investigation at the jail pleaded guilty yesterday to narcotics charges.
Correction Officer Keith McFarlane, 44, admitted delivering a half-ounce of what he believed to be cocaine to an inmate at Rikers on Jan. 25.
McFarlane had picked up the package - which was simulated narcotics - from an undercover detective who pretended to be a girlfriend of the inmate who was receiving the drugs.
After the plea, McFarlane's bail was revoked and he was immediately hauled off to jail to await sentencing. He faces up to six years in prison.
McFarlane, a 12-year Correction Department veteran, and six other jail employes were busted July 2 and charged with running a drug-smuggling ring at Rikers Island.
The Daily News reported last month that the Department of Investigation was looking into allegations that McFarlane was allowing gang members at Rikers to receive drugs in return for trysts with their girlfriends. The investigation into the sex scandal is ongoing, despite yesterday's surprise guilty plea, said Steven Reed, a spokesman for the Bronx district attorney's office.
McFarlane could face additional charges, Reed said.
I used love to see C.O.s busted and on ther way to prison .But I'm a changed man I feel bad for the wife and children of these guys . I must be getting soft .Thank you GOD>>>>>>
