I just received the "Bibb County Correctional Facility, Procedure For Access To Health Care" today. Now I'm not sure if it is the same in every Alabama CF but to receive non-emergency medical care at Bibb, it costs the inmate a $3 co-pay. In the county correctional facility here it was free. What are the inmates that do not have money sent to them supose to do for medical care? I also asked about any "in house jobs available to the inmates, to make a little extra money. Some of the inmates get to work renovating a mental institution for a $0.25 an hour. Again, I wasn't sure if this was the situation in all CF's but thought I would share.

It's $3 at every Alabama facility.

If they don't have the money on their account, they are still given access to medical care - such as it is. The money is deducted from their books and will leave a negative balance. Any time money is put into their accounts, then it covers the negative balance first. The prisoner is given what's left over.

Just $3??? They told my husband that his doctor visit a couple weeks ago was going to cost him $80-100!!! Do you know if the rules are different at Work Release?? If not then they owe us a refund! Please share any info you might have! Thanks!

LOL Oh yes! Work Release! The deal is that when they have enough money on their books to pay for a free world doctor, then they take them to one. And the cost for the whole visit comes out of their account. Visiting a prison physician is no longer an option. With the prison doctors, though, you get what you pay for.

I have question on this one. If the Spouse in Prison is on the Outside Spouses Health Insurance from the employer, the prisoner can use those benefits??
