Ok Well If Anything Happened To Him Who Would They Notify Because I Am Only His Girlfriend We Are Not Married But Hes Not Too Close With His Mom But If God Forbid Something Happened To Him Do U Think Theyd Let Me Know Cuz I Write To Him Alot Or How Would They Let Him Know I Know Im Thinking The Worst But He Wouldnt Do This To Me And He Cant Call Cuz I Just Got My Phone Number And He Doesnt Have It

If something happend to him (resulting in death), they would notify his next of kin. It's been my experience that if he gets into a fight, or has a serious illness, No One gets notified by the prison officials. You have to wait to hear about what happened from your man.

They do not always notify you when death occurs either. I just recently went through all this with a friend of mine who's husband died at Vacaville ....YES she was listed as next of kin, it took over 3 weeks to get his body back down to her.

IF he does NOT have you listed as next of kin (something he has to do with his counselor) then NO they will not notify you period.
It's sad but that is the way it is. Make sure that he has you listed as next of kin!!!

In this case, "next of kin" is the nearest blood relative(s) of a person who has died, including the surviving spouse.

Yes I have also heard that they will not notify you. But if he wants to he can have you as an emergency contact if anything ever happens to him. I'm not married either but I'm listed as who to contact. But my man is in PVSP.

when the inmate is in reception they fill out tons of papers, one in which is the emergency form, meaning "next of kin"... I have heard they are no quick on notifying, but just because you are his g/f or wife, if he doesnt have you listed, you wont be the one they notify. I am also not sure if they have you list 1 or 2 next of kin

Generally, you are all kinda correct. The Next of Kin is normally a relative, who the inmates' requests at point of reception (or) during his/her annual classification review to be listed on their "In Case of Emergency or Death Notification" within his Central File. I beleive I have heard them refer to the Form as a CDC Form 127. This notification is primarily for death notification; however, it would also be used in the event of a serious injury illness or injury. Each guy also has a medical file, in which they can include a request for medical information to be released, should they become ill or injured, and are unable to request the contact be made due to the seriousness of the illness or injury.

In the event of illness or injury, a Medical Practitioner will be the one who calls, as based upon laws of Medical Confidentially, no one else can be privy to this knowledge. In the event of a death, a Custody Supervisor and possible a member of the clergy will make the contact.

Although most guys have only one individual listed on these Form(s), they are permitted to have more than one individual listed as well. These forms are also used to assist in determining who should receive any property or trust account funds that also may be on hand at the institution should he/she pass away while incarcerated.:thumbsup:
