My loved one is finally coming home from a Federal Prison. I understand that they are not told when or how. However, I was wondering if some folks here with past experience or friends that were in, could share the transportation the Fed. Institutions use to free our men.

He will be headed to a halfway house in his original home state, as a point of reference. And he is about one or two weeks away from being told (approximately).

***Any idea of airlines they are put on? Bus companies? AmTrak? Do family members pick thhem up?** Transportation home is my main query. How is it set up and how consistent is it from federal prison to federal prison in different states? Thanks in advance.

Many times, the option to actually pick them up and transport them yourself is available. If you are not able to... you can imagine the BOP will probably use the cheapest means posible... i.e. the bus.

Keep the Faith

unless a family member picks them up. they will take the bus at their own expense. once he is released, he has so many hours to report to the halfway house.

I was released from MDC Brooklyn earlier today/yesterday. They gave me a $25 "travel allowance" which just about covered the bus ticket from NYC to my home town. Other than that you're pretty much on your own.

Is it possible for me to send him enough $ for him to get a plane ticket--or
are the only two options---family and friends pick him up or BOP HANDS him
a bus ticket? Thanks again for all your kind and prompt responses. I truly appreciate it.

I had a few hundred dollars in my account when I left...they gave me $106 and promised to send the rest in a check. Thankfully I had money, otherwise the amount that they "gave" me, $25, would not have covered the cost of the bus ticket.
Additionally, I live in a small town and have NO experience with subways, etc...and they gave me no instructions. Thankfully, the people of NYC are NOT what their rep implies, people went out of their way to help me. God Bless you, NYC!!!!
Anyway....BOP is a pile of dung. They could care less.
Good luck to you. If you can pick him up DO IT!!!!
When he fills out his release/round robin papers they'll ask him what mode of transportation he'll be taking and it's his choice to get picked up or opt for them to arrange it.
If you have any other questions either post them here or PM me...been there done that so I try to help when I can.

My husband was given the choice of being picked up by a family member or riding the bus. I went and picked him up and we had a certain amount of time to get him to the half way house. He was told where he was going and when about a week prior!! Good luck!!
