First of all, thank you for this space to learn and communicate with people who are going through similar experiences. I am not American, but 2001 in San Francisco I met and fell in love with a man who was in the first year of a three year parole term after serving 3 years for a felony. We got married last year and are hoping to start a new life (I am lucky enough to have a good job, and I can fly back & forth). The parole ended on the 15th of March 2006 but he has not received any letter or official notification. The last time the parole officer came to the house in March, he said "okay, so this is it, I am finished with you, good luck & good bye." What can he do to get some official document saying he has done his time and is free? Should we contact the parole board? Who do we speak to? What is the danger in asking for such a document? (He is worried that an envious or spiteful official may deliberately cause delays if we confront them) Can he leave and return to the state/country without problems?. Please, please help me, I only want my husband - he is frustrated and scared, and so am I! Thank you, good luck and may God protect and bless everyone.

He should receive a letter and I think a card that he carries with him from the Board that he's been discharged. I don't know how long it takes them to send the letter, but you can call the Parole Headquarters that covers the region his parole office is in. The number to the parole office is listed in one of the stickies in this forum.

I would suggest that he not travel until after he receives the discharge certificate.

There should be no risk in your husband asking for his "discharge card" <--- that is the term parole uses for the card they give stating the person is off parole. All he needs to do is call the parole department and ask. My husband never recieved his because his parole agent went out on medical disability at the same time my husband discharged. About 2 years later we ran in to a parole officer that my husband had before the one that went out on disability. My husband mentioned to him that he had never got his discharge card; about a week later it showed up in the mail :). It was always my impression that parole wants you to have your discharge card. I think they say to carry it for at least the first year your off.
