I have a friend at ASPC Perryville in AZ. Aparently she has been told that a new law has passed determining that offenders will only have to serve 60% of their time. Does anyone know if this is correct?...Also, would this law apply to DUI offenders who are NOT serving flat time. If anyone has any info it would be most appreciated. I know she is anxiously waiting to hear.

No, unfortunately it isnt true. :( There are rumors about this all the time (except that the rumors state it will be 65% not 60%) and it isnt true.

The old law prior to January 1st 1994 was that offenders were eligible for parole at 65%. Then as of Jan 1, 1994, the law changed to 85% and they did away with parole altogether.

When was your friend sentenced? The only people who are eligible for release after 65% are those people who were sentenced on or before Dec. 31, 1993, because as of 1-1-94 the law became 85% and it is still in effect.

There hasnt even been legislation introduced, much less passed, to lessen it to 65% again. Im sorry, but I hope this helps. :o
