If anyone has ever driven from Brickeys to Jefferson County Jail/ Corr. Fac. please let me know how long it took and what kind of drive is it. MapQuest says 2 1/2 hours.
A friend and I have made travel arrangements to visit 2 different inmates at JCF. We bought our plane tickets and reserved a rental car, from Memphis airport. (Because of flight schedules we could not fly in/out of Little Rock.) Now one inmate has been transferred to Brickeys, and we are trying to decide if we each should get our own rental car, or if I'd be able to drop the other person off at Brickeys and go on to JCJ.
Thank you.

Never drove it, but looks like a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive to me.And if you both visit on the same day ...it will be impossible. Is visitation for each inmate on the same day or could it be a Saturday for one and Sunday for the other...but since you are traveling so far you should get to have special visit times besides the weekend visits.Sorry I am not much help. kitty
Well that helps. Thank you. Both inmates only get visits on Saturdays. We could get a different day because of being from far away but we got a deal on plane tickets. Our plan was to drive from Memphis airport to JCJ and share a rental car. I guess now we would just each get our own car, go our own ways and meet back at the airport afterward.

Yeah, glad everything went well for you all. So what do you Florida folk think of Arkansas:) kitty
Well, I had to tell all my Florida pals about it. Florida is in the dark ages with dungeons. The dorms are NOT air conditioned in FL! My AR pal had some hard candy in his dorm and he brought a pocketful into the VP. IN FL that would be contraband! Here's the FL visitation routine. On the first visit they take a photo which is stored in the computer. Then you scan your hand 3 times in this device. They issue you an ID card with a PIN number. Each visit thereafter, you show your ID, enter the PIN in the device and scan your hand. The computer prints out a document wiht your picture, the inmate's picture, and what your relationship is to the inmate. You have to hand that dcoument to an officer in the VP. Then you go to the search room. Empty your pockets onto the table, they count the money. (I know of someone who was denied visits for at least 3 months because he had too much money on him.) You can only have the money, your ID and one car key. Remove your shoes, which they look in. They feel the bottom of your feet and pat you down. (I got caught once having a tissue in my pocket and was not allowed to bring it in.) Meanwhile the inmate is strip searched. In some camps - like on death row - the inmate is strip searched before and after each restroom break! The food is more expensive in FL. The FL inmates do not have crafts like I saw in AR. At the end of the visit you get that document back formt he officer, then at the exit you hand in that document and you have to scan your hand again.
Because of the flight schedule I didn't get to do anything other than go directly from the airport to the visit and back just as the plane was boarding. But I did enjoy the visit and "I'll be back".
Where is this July get-together in relation to Little Rock? Maybe I'll be able to attend.

Glad you like the area and it was an easier visit here than in Fl. The get together will be in Bismarck, which I have never been there but map quest says it is 75 miles from Little Rock, you take I-30 West. If you can make it maybe we can get one of the people from that area to give you good directions. kitty

Its not acutally in Bismarck just out side of it. You take I-30 west out of Little Rock go to exit #98 Caddo Valley exit. Get off there and turn to the right. I still dont know which portion we will be using yet either the lower or the upper. I'll go today and look it over my self and get a better idea as to what the price is. I'll post and let you guys know. Come and joiin us Mike we'd love to have you

opps its exit #78 my bad
Local Directions
Take Exit #78 off I-30 at Caddo Valley/Arkadelphia and travel seven miles north on Scenic 7 Byway to the park, or from Hot Springs travel 21 miles south on Scenic 7 Byway (a 30-minute drive).
The pavillions are not available for the 29 but ok for the 30 at $60 a day OMG. Sorry but ive changed it to a little bit cheaper spot. The spot has a swimming area and picnic tables for use. The cost is $1 per person per car or $4 max for as many as we can get in a vehicle. Its called the Highway 7 area. My kid and I went and looked it over there are several tables close together and its under trees. Does this sound good to everyone?
