Just a quick question that i hope someone might know the answer to, does inmate mail follow them to their new facitliy or is it trashed?
I sent mail to my hubby yesterday only to find out he was transfered to a different facitlity last night..

From what I was told by a friend of mine who is a former inmate is that it might take a bit but eventually he should get all mail.

They only forward the mail for 30 days.

It should get forwarded since he was just transferred yesterday. When this happened with my boyfriend, it took him a couple of months to finally get the letter, but he did get it.

First class mail is forwarded for 30 days. Or, to put it more accurately, first class mail 'should' be forwarded for 30 days after the transfer.

When my man was transferred they didn't transfer any of his mail even though they are supposed to like everyone said for 30 days...I had sent a bunch of letter (like 5 of them) that he didn't get before he left, about a month later they all came back to ME. By that point there was no use in even sending them to him again because I'd have to re-pay the postage and it was all old news.

As I wrote - "All first class mail is supposed to be forwarded for 30 day". However, this is not always the case. For some staff, the lazy way is the easier way. They hold the mail for 30 days and then return it to sender. While the BOP does have some wonderful employees, it also has some from the bottom of the barrel as well.

I am glad that came from you greyghost :D . As I have said in the past, every profession contains a "Bell Shaped Curve" of members within it's ranks. I also say Ditto to the comment about some being "Wonderful". In my brief association with the BOP I have treasured the few who seem to go the extra yard for both the families and our loved ones inside and amazingly (for me) one good soul can make up for several average individuals.
