Hi everyone! My little brother/dear friend is in Chino. I live in Idaho, brrrr.... He says he can now get books, his address is still the reception P. O.Box, so my question is what type? soft? or hardcover? He said only Barnes and Noble was the allowed sender! But I can't afford that on top of everything else. Can't we use Amazon and used books, if they enclose an invoice? or if they use a padded envelope and no cardboard? Do those rules still apply at Chino? I haven't been able to get any answer from anyone or their website CDCR. County rules might have been different. I sent books to him in County and when they moved him, they kept them!! I just hope they put them in the library for the other inmates there! He barely cracked them and then he moved! I have teenagers at home and Y'all know how much they need financially, whew. Sending stuff to my brother is like having another one on allowance. Wasn't in the budget AT ALL. LOL> He has a brain tumor and I'd like to ask for prayer, they won't give him the prescription for pain and he's in agony! Can't figure it out. I grieve for him daily and pray like a crazy woman. Wrote a letter to the warden last week in hopes that someone will listen. Calling the prison and the medical staff didn't do anything. Maybe someone knows how to get the attention of medical there?
Anyway. I'm new at this and probably doing this all wrong.....can't find any of the questions I posted before, so figure I did something dumb. Could someone tell me where to look to see if anyone replied to this with info? Love the site and the family here.......... Blessings for you and your loved ones too! Duks

you can send them books from amazon.com but I belive they must be new( they only accept them in padded envelopes not boxes) They can't get book or magazines if they are in reception status. There are Mainline inmates in all 3 reception centers in chino but they are PWC ( permanent work crew) that's probably why he thinks he can get them. You can send him e- books if you want. just download them and send them in 15 pages at a time. I know that Amazon.com has a few free ones. My husband is in minimum there after being transfered from reception there in chino so I went threw this with him. He had saw other inmates with books so he thought he could get them too. Hope this helps
