Gee Sherri, am I late answering this one or what?? I missed it somehow and just now found it when creating the Tech Help forum..

There are a lot of factors when you scan something.. You usually will want them at 100% of the scan size.. You will also want to crop the image if the scanner does not automatically crop them for you. Most of the older scanners don't.. They will just scan the entire flat bed and output even the white areas. On most of the newer scanners, they will suggest a crop line when you preview scan them. This outline is adjustable before you make your final scan.
Does this help at all?
David

Sherri13, I'm not too familiar with scanners--having never had one myself. But I would think it's pretty much the same as a printer, no? I'd have a look in the preferences of the scanner, there might be a "properties" button on the menu of it... if there is, try and look for the "default scan size", it kinda sounds to me that the default is set to alot bigger than what you want it. If it is an older scanner, you still might get the "white flat bed" around the image you've scanned. I've left this link for a picture editor in the computer odds and ends thread, it really is a handy little program and it's very easy to use. If you want to download it you can get it here. (http://download.com.com/3000-2192-10132330.html?tag=lst-0-1) Don't worry about not knowing how to use it, like I said it's very easy... if you have msn messenger, or just want to jump into the chat room for 5 or 10 minutes sometime, I can talk you thru how to re-size things easily.

goodluck :)

Sherri, I've found that 75 pixels is a good setting, it doesn't make the pictures too big...in the PTO pets forum, the picture of my cat Alladin is done at 75 pixels - originally it was a 4x6 photo.

If you tell me what type of scanner you have, I might be able to help you set the pixel size that it scans pictures at. Let me know :)

As David said, most scanner today have a preview scan. That will scan the whole area. Then you can set the area (croping) you want to scan in the preview. Once that is set (moving the lines) click scan, that area is what you will get and depending on what photo software your running, you can do some enhancements to it there. I haven't used my photo software (Photo Shop 7) enought to know what all there is, that can be done. So I'm not much help there.

If you right click any photo and click "properties" it will tell you the size of the photo. If your photo software doesn't "resize" you can always go back and crop some more and re-scan to get the size you want.
