My husband is in CCC also, They can only get packages from approved websites, I know one is CaliforniaQP.com. You can not just send them a box with shoes, you have to order through the websites or send in a order form.

Sorry Sol I'm here!!!! :p No books and stuff from Barnes and Noble WILL NOT count as a quarterly. I send William stuff from there all the time. As a matter of fact, I just went to B&N last week and picked out about 5 magazines and had them shipped to my man. It only took 3 days to reach him. Magazines, books, newspaper subscriptions, etc., are allowed at any time. :D :)

P.S. Thank you BUMPER for listing the link to the guide. ;)

OF course Im going to list your links Laura! You have everything us girls need on here! I'm curious about special packages too! I didnt know I could just go to Barnes and Noble and ship stuff to my man at any time. I ordered him 2 subscriptions and I ordered one for myself of the same magazine and I received my first one a week ago and he told me last night he still hasnt gotten his, Are subscriptions allowed?? He told me they were. Also as far as shoes go, What website would I order those from in order for it to be a special package?? Thanks a bunch! ALso I read your post on your visiting denial, such a bummer Im so sorry to hear about that. Sometimes I feel like they do that on purpose to break families up, They were supposed to send my husband to Chino and then they send him all they to Susanville, God it still breaks my heart like the first time I heard the news. Keep your head up, We have to be stong too! :-)

 Special Packages:

Special Packages allow for the purchase of Electronics, Accessories, Musical Instruments, Under Garments and Clothing, Correspondence Courses, Legal Material and Faith Based Items. That would otherwise crowd a quarterly package beyond its allowed weight or dimensions. There is no limit to the amount of special packages allowed in a calendar year. (Does this help Sol?)

This is what is can be sent in a "special package". CD players, CDs (note that there is a limit on the number of CDs an inmate can have. At HDSP it is 8 or 10), shoes, etc. BUT, if you are sending clothing I highly suggest that you call the R&R department first and find out which items of clothing are allowed in the special package. This is different at every prison. Both Access SecurePak (http://www.californiaqp.com/) and Union Supply (http://www.californiainmatepackage.com/) have shoes, and you can pick the option to send them "special". I liked the shoes that Union Supply has better, they have more "name brand" choices and I bought William's shoes through them. So you can check out those two sites BUMPER.

Books and magazines are not considered a special package, they just count as regular mail. I have sent William both books (SOFT COVER ONLY) and magazines from B&N and he also has magazine subscriptions. Sometimes it takes a little longer for a magazine to reach him if it is a subscription. I have found that it is easier for me just to go to B&N and pick the mags out. That way I can see what's cool before he gets it. I know that HDSP does not accept MENS HEALTH. I think it might have to do with the perfume samples or something like that. Just remember, the magazines cannot contain nude photos or weapons/gang activity.

Hope this helps ladies!
