I don't know about a maximum, you should call Coffeewood and see. My guy had a whopping balance on his so he could order a TV and other stuff. Just keep in mind that it usually takes a few days to post money orders to his account, but JPay goes direct to his account that night.

JPay is a service available where you pay them a higher fee than a money order, but it goes directly to their inmate account. For example, to send $20 costs $3.95. $50 costs $6.95. You pay for the ability to get money on their books right away.

I recently sent a money order and they still have not received it and it is not on his account. It has been over a week since I sent it. Last night I used Jpay since he needs to go to commissary, and it will be on his books today, he will get the slip tonight at mail call and will be able to order tomorrow. Yes, it is higher than the $.95 for a money order, but sometimes, if you need that options, jpay is there.

www.jpay.com and if you use a different browser than Internet Explorer it may not process.

There isn't a maximum amount... but you will want to be careful about him having too much. Inmates may try to extort him if he has too much money.

does Jpay work for all institutions?

Jpay does work for all DOC facilities in Virginia. One thing though, if he gets moved, send in a regular money order to that facility as they can still send it to his old place.

Inmates can find out all kinds of ways. Someone in the office, the guards have access, just watching to see if he gets any new slips and always orders from commissary without any worry. There are all kinds of ways to find out.
