i am looking for someone to talk to and relate with my dad is in prison and i have questions:confused:

I think maybe you have the concept of PTO a little confused. We are not a chat group. People come to PTO at all times of the day and read/respond to threads others have started along with starting their own.

My best advice is to ask your questions here in this thread....others will come along and answer them as they see it. You can check back at your convenience.

thank you my dad is in prison for 9 yrs and its hard because i have always been so close to him and i have 5 kids and he has only seen 2 of them and that was a few years ago and i know its hard on him too but sometimes he gets a little upset if i dont write him every week but takikng care of 5 kids takes up 90 percent of the day and he and my mom only had one they dont really understand he gets out in 2008

Hi my Dad is in prison also. He has been in for 2 1/2 years and it is really hard on all of us. I love and miss my dad very much. Its hard to get to see him every week. I have a son that was very close to his pap and he has only seen him once in all that time. I have a good shoulder if you need one.

hi. i am 27 yrs old and my daddy is in county waiting for court. although i would like to think otherwise, he's pretty well headed to do some time. he is almost 60 years old, clean record until this crap started about 10 years ago, was a wonderful father my whole life. He is my rock.when he started doing speed and kept getting caught with it (never more than a gram though) Got himself 2 new cases while on probation and then jumped bond. grrrrrrrrr. He's not doing well at all in county, healt wise or mentally.
He has only been gone about a month, and I am not sure I can accept him being gone years, like I have a choice I guess, huh?

I am a first time member. My daddy left October 1,2003 for El Reno, Ok Federal Prison. He is 60 years old and never ever been in trouble. I don't even think he has had a speeding ticket. He received 36 months. He was trying to help a friend and made a mistake. His case is dealing with the growing of pot. Can anyone relate? Does anyone know anything about El Reno, Ok?

I have been looking for others in my situation and here you all are. My father is in county awaiting his fate in the Florida system. He is 65 and he to has been my rock. I went through a divorce 2 years ago and he was the only one to harbour me and my set of 1 year old twins and a 3 year old. I went through hell, I had no $ and four mouths to feed, he was there. My dad has been in Isolation in county jail since feb 2003 (almost a year), a very lonely place, all alone in a cell. I write every other day. Yes it is hard, but he was their for me ( quiet home enjoying retirement and here I come with 3 kids under the age of 3) and I will be there for him. If any of you wish to talk, I am here, I understand the pain, the stress and the anger.

i am 19 years old and my dad has been in jail since i was 11. I never really knew my dad cuz my mother kept me from him, so it has really been hard for me to talk to him, and now i have a daughter and i am confused on wheather i should tell her about her grandfather or not . I don't want to hert her like my mom hurt me but also I don't want her to get hurt from my dad what should I do????????????

I think as long as your father is in prison, he can't hurt your daughter. I think it is best for children to know the truth...because sooner or later, she will find out. Now, being her grandfather, it probably wouldn't bring as much resentment as say, you to your mother...but I'm sure it will still bother her quite a bit.
I also think it's important that kids know there is bad in the world and everything doesn't always go as planned. I think if you tell her he is in prison and is there for punishment because of something wrong that he did, she'll understand better that there are consequences for the choices she decides to make, whether it be good or bad.
Also, when the hard times come, and they will, (they do for us all, even though we hate to think it will ever happen to the children, it will) she will be more prepared with the understanding that life isn't always good. I know for myself...my mother tried to keep me from my father, unsuccesfully for the most part. but on the weekends I would stay with my father, she would sometimes ask to talk to him alone asking him using drugs again/while I was around. I remember being 8 years old and seeing my father lift up his sleaves, showing my mother his arms. Of course I had no idea then, but I still remember that vividly. Well...the day came and it just happened to come right at christmas, I got a call from my father, a collect call. I was devastated and knew then what they'd been keeping from me.

Now I'm not saying that kids should know all, because they shouldn't, and there was really no reason for either of them to discuss that with me at that age. But my point is...my dad was my hero, and still is to a point, only now I know he's not perfect. Then I didn't, and found out on Christmas that drugs had taken my father away, or rather, he allowed them too, and on Christmas day at that.

I think the devastation a shielded child gets is much more than a child who knows life has ups and downs.

I don't feel like I'm really making any sense here, so I'm going to stop...but above all...I do think you should tell her.
If you decide to though, and you feel he is getting close to hurting EITHER of you...then don't risk it.

How old is your daughter?

I am looking for someone who actually understands and can help me understand and cope with the idea that my dad is going to prison. He recently got sentenced to 10 years. I'm only 16, and my dad has been the only parent I have had since I was 2 years old. I just dont know how I am going to be strong enough to cope with everything. Someone Please help. I have sympathy for all of you, as both my mother and my father are in prison. My mother is almost home (9mths) and daddy will be home in 08. It's a very hard thing to deal with. Especially when your friends and family don't know what it's like. They really try to help, but it's not the same as talking to someone who is going through the same things.

I KNOW NOONE KNOWS HOW IT IS UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN IN YOUR SHOES I JUST FOUND OUT MY DAD HAS BEEN CHARGED IN A MURDER INSIDE THE PRISON SO ITS HARD TO COME COME TO TERMS THAT HE WILL DIE IN THERE AND THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO TO HELP.

You see i also have 2 uncles in prison and my 15 yeart old brother just went to a prison for teenagers. All the men in my and my moms life are gone i worry more about my mom my mom and dad recently got back together and in a way i am happy and than sometimes i am not because my dad is still in prison and i know my mom is lonely alot and deserves to be happy i can only visit my dad thru a glass i have not hugged him or kissed him since i was a baby and i really dont remember that time my mom cries alot and has to write and send money to 4 diffrent people i am very proud of my mom because she has stayed out of trouble and done her best to raise us i know that i want to finish school and make my mom and dad proud i miss my dad but i really dont know him and i hope he comes home soon so that we can get to know each other so i understand how all of you feel i get sad sometimes when we have daddy/daughter dances at school and i cant go but i pray alot my mom taught me how to pray and stay close to God i was really mad at my dad for a long time because he was not here but my mom taught me to forgive i hope all of you pray and that your mom or dads come home soon

Hi, My Dad has been in for 26 years april 3, 2004. You never get over it. I,m in NC and he is in Florida which makes visits really hard. We have (my brother and myself) made a promish to go to see him every other month. But even that , we still feel guilty because were're not there more often. He recieved life in Califonia,I have to children who have never met there grandfather.We're trying to find a way to get him out or at least closer. He has detainers on him in Ca. I'm not sure where to start ,but I'm reading and studying everything I can find.

My dad isn't in prison but, my mom is and she has a 35year sentence I know what it's like completely. You should feel somewhat lucky that you get to see him at least once a week. I see my mom maybe once a year. So far my mom has been there for 7 years and hopefully she gets out on parole in 2013 we'll see.
