What do you think about the budget cuts and the proposed deal with state employees. Do you think the Gov. proposal will go through or do you think they will be looking at some of the other options? I am really nervous everytime a budget comes up. Politicians meddle in too much.

I got a letter from my man in SWICC. He told me that they only get one hot meal a day now. No salt/pepper, no mayo/spread for these meals any more and he's thinking the next thing to go is state pay. Is any one else getting mail or know about these cuts do to the budget cuts?

I've talked to Nick a lot this week, and he hasn't mentioned anything. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

The whole diet for Illinois prisons has now been changed as it was noticed by the new nutritionist that the old one was full of fat and cholesterol. It has been changed to what they call Healthy Heart diet. I don't know if that means just the one hotmeal a day?

Okay - Stateville serves chocolate pop-tarts for breakfast - what's heart healthy about that???? Sounds like interdepartmental, as good an excuse as any, BS!!!!!! It's whatever crap is hanging around the kitchen that particular day.....
At Robinson Jeff got three good meals a day including salad bar daily. Biscuits and gravy and eggs for breakfast...roast chicken for lunch....pretty nice, huh??? He goes back there tomorrow.....thank God...

I agree, not a health conscious diet, chocolate pop tarts! Sounds like Robinson has good food compared to the ville.

My son doesnt do chow alot so he hasnt noticed, but he did say his state pay for school is being cut to $10.00 a month and alot of the work camp inmates pay is really going to get cut down if DOC has there way. What a hardship this will create for those who have no support system on the outside.

My penpal at Tamms said that the lights are cut on his pod during the day for about 3 to 4 hours about three days a week to save money. He also said that they were getting hygiene packs once a month plus their state pay of $10 and now they won't get the hygiene packs. He sent me the warden's letter. I told him they were getting more than guys at other prisons who just get the state pay. He was upset as it cuts down on his postage money.
