I received a letter from one our members who self-surrendered to FPC Bryan recently. She reports to be acclimating well and surprised me by saying the food wasn't that bad.

Due to the support and connections she made on PTO, another inmate had a bag of hygiene items for her when she arrived and I had sent a card so she had mail within an hour of getting to her bed.

She has prospects for a job that she wants inside the Education dept. and hopes to begin the Cosmetology program in August.

She wrote: "If you talk to any other women online about Bryan, please let them know it's OK. Please let them know that if I can do this (and I can) that anyone can do this!"

I just got home from there in January. Trust me some days it is OK and other days....well lets just say that Commissary was definitely necessary.

They like to serve the same thing over and over. You will sometimes see Tuna salad three or four days later...don't eat it. The meat was sometimes different colors. We all joked about the turkey calling it Sponge Bob. They get donations of like loads of stuff and even though it has expired, they still serve it.

Thursday is Hamburger day and hence the reason we all counted down our time by how many hanburger days we had left. But they are Ok.

Let me say..it will get you by but dont expect it to be like anything from home.

Hello, I recently signed up to send and receive messages, via prison talk. my daughter was moved today, 6/21/06 to Bryan FPC..I wrote a question i wanted answered and put it in thread, i believe, then i received a message saying it had been moved. I think i'm doing something wrong. So i'm replying here to see if i can get an answer, sorry for any confusion, i am defenitely confused. My question was she was given a 36 month sentence, of which she now has served 11 months on 8/5/06. She was ordered by the Judge to take the drug program, mandatory, and will get a year off her sentence, when completed. Since she has about 2 years left, for it to benefit her, as for as her release date, she would have to be able to get into the program pretty quick. does anyone know how long it takes to get in. I believe its called RDAP, is there a waiting list, and how long generally does it take to get in, or is there another drug program. Since she has about 21 months to serve. By my calculations if she could get in soon, she would be released sometime around 6/07. Also she attended bible study classes where she was held over 3 times a week, which has helped her tremendously, and was wondering about bible study at Bryan also, and i believe i also read where you also can attend church services. This site has been most informative and i'm thankful for it. Also when will she be allowed to call home. does she have to pay for the call now or can it be collect. Thanks to you all

Cajunmax,

Welcome to the Federal forum. I'll answer your questions one at a time. First of all regarding your calculations. TxRhino can give you exact figures but mine will be close. On a 36 month sentence, she will be eligible for 15% Good Time Credit which comes to about 5.4 months, getting it down to 31.6 months. Since she has already served 11 months, this brings her total time left to 20.6 months, without RDAP.

If she does get accepted into the RDAP program, she would spend 9 months in the program with 6 months halfway house time. As you can see, that leaves a maximum of 5.6 months off her sentence. However, she must go through her orientation of a week or two before she can even get interviewed for RDAP and then if accepted into the next class must wait for it to begin.

She has a judicial recommendation for RDAP. The RDAP intake coordinator has full power to decide who does/does not get accepted. The judge cannot order the BOP to accept her into the program. They do however have a non-residential program which does not offer the sentence reduction. Whether she benefits from a sentence reduction or not, the RDAP program could help her immensely.

FPC Bryan does have outsiders come in to conduct Bible studies and has a chapel with several services and a great chapel library.

It ususally takes about a week for her phone list to be approved. If you send money to her commissary account, she will be able to phone you at a much cheaper rate than a collect call.

cajunmax,

I am going to venture a guess here , but I suspect the reason your daughter got transferred to FPC Bryan is because relatively speaking, this facility has a rather short waiting list for RDAP. I would also suspect if she was doing time in another Fed Facility prior to her transfer she may have already been approved for RDAP. If I am wrong on any of this... please fell free to correct me. That said, she could be eligible to go to the HWH immediately upon completion of her RDAP classes. As SusanT pointed out, she will have a couple of weeks of indoc after arrival.

At present she has just over 25 mnths remaining on her sentence. In a perfect world person would enter RDAP at 27 mnths remaining on their sentence and it would break down as follows:

27 = 9 + 12 + 6 were 9 = mnths of RDAP classes
12 = mnths max sentence reduction
6 = mnths HWH.

Now consider you have not even calculated her GTC as this will be between 3 and 4 mnths which means she has around 21 mnths remaining on her sentence. I suspect the reason for my confussion is that you said she got her sentence on 05 Aug of 2006 and this is only June that date must be a typo... did you mean she was sentenced in 2005? If you could clear up these couple of points of confusion I can give you more exact information.

As for positive influences... there are many fine Ladies at FPC Bryan. If you will PM me I would be happy to give you a few names of some te the GOOD women your daughter may want to look up who will help her get adjusted and who may also be able to help her spiritually as well. I will await your reply and until then don't forget to ....

Keep the Faith

Michael :thumbsup:

Michael, I'M SORRY FOR ANY CONFUSION, MY DAUGHTER WAS ARRESTED AUG. 6TH 2005. SHE WAS DENIED BAIL, THEREFORE SHE HAS BEEN IN LA. FOR ALMOST 11 MONTHS AT CCC, THIS WOULD BE HER TIME SERVED SO FAR. SO SHE WOULD HAVE 25 MONTHS FROM RIGHT NOW, WITHOUT ANY PROGRAMS. SHE HAS BEEN IN THE PROGRESS OF BEING MOVED SINCE MY 1ST POST ABOUT A WEEK OR SO AGO. SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE PLANE, SO THEY RETURNED HER TO A FEDERAL FACILITY IN LA. FOR A FEW DAYS. SHE LEFT THERE MONDAY, 6/26/06 AND WAS BROUGHT TO OK FTC AND NOW IS ON HER WAY AS OF TODAY, HOPEFULLY SHE HAS ARRIVED AT BRYAN. ALL OF YOU HAVE BEEN GREEEEEEEEAT. I'M DEFINITELY NEW TO THIS AND EVEN HAVE TROUBLE FINDING MY WAY AROUND THIS SITE, HOPEFULLY I'LL GET BETTER. ALSO ABOUT HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE BEFORE WE GET TO SEE HER. HER DAD HAS TERMINAL CANCER, SO THIS IS MY REASON FOR ALL THE URGENCY...HOPE ITS SOON.......CAJUNMAX

Cajunmax, as immediate family you should be able to visit her the first week-end after her arrival. I would suggest you phone FPC Bryan and ask to speak with the Chaplain. Let him know the situation with her father and how long it has been since they've visited. With his condition, you certainly don't want to make a wasted trip in this heat.

Sutsan T.....I was in Bryan recently and now even immediate family have to go through the approval process and it just depends on how quickly the unit counselors do the paper work...my husband was coming to visit me 3 weeks after I arrived and my counselor still had not done the approval...he had to call there and I had to bug her to get her to do it...but just because they are immediate family it is best for them NOT to come unless they know for sure they have been approved.

Dawn, thanks for that information. I had to drive through Bryan earlier this week for the first time since my release 3.5 years ago. I drove around the perimeter wondering how I would feel.

Just "healed", grateful, and hoping I never forget what it's like so that I can continue to help prepare people facing the family separation.

Susan T..........yes It is tough going through the separation. I am glad that PTO was here before I had to go. It really helped alot speaking to people who had been through it before!!!!! I am out now almost 10 mos!!!!! I could not imagine going back!!!!
