My Husband Is Going To Be Doing Time There And Iwant To Know About Contact Visits And Conjugle Visits And Also Won't The Judge Usually Place The Person To Do Time At The Fed Joint Closest To His Family? Thanks, sassy

First, there are no conjugal visits in the Federal Prison System. Contact visits are allowed, but no excessive contact. A short hug and kiss upon greeting and leaving.

While the BOP tried to place inmates within 500 miles of their residence, there are many factors that determine where an inmate is housed. An inmate could potentially go anywhere in the U.S.

The information I have gotten is mostly from people who have either been there, moderators that seems to have quite a bit of knowledge, basic information I have read surfing or from the actual bop site.

Entertainment and Physical Activities:
3 to 4 TV per housing camp. Typical tuned to Spanish, Sports and General Local
Weekend Movie Showing
Softball Team
Crafts Room
Computer Lab
Library
Weight Rooms
A “park”

Sleeping Arrangements:
Apparently the camp is divided into units and each unit is about 25 people. Pretty much, your interaction is very close with that “unit” except during meals where they all are mixed together. The sleep style is dorm style and there are 2 to a cubical. No barred doors.

Visitations:
I don’t know if you plan on getting many visitors but apparently you make create a visitation list. Once its approved by the powers at hand, those individuals can visit you. Immediate family listed in your PSI can be added without background checks, everyone else is run through a NCIC security background check. Apparently this takes some time so you want to get this going asap if you have non immediate family members coming to visit. Visitation is every day except Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 to 5:30 with a hour gap for some 4:00 count. Weekend and Holiday hours are extended. We will be assigned 25 points for visitation at the beginning of each month. Each point equates to 1 hour of visitation on the weekdays and 2 points for one hour on holidays and weekends. FPC is Sat. and Sun and federal holidays only. I am not sure if the point system is in place for the camp.

FOOD:
Food seems to be a pretty O.K. experience. From what I read its mess hall cafeteria style. I have heard and read so many things. The consensus is that it is average at best. On the same note, again, I have heard that Seagoville is not half as bad as the mainstream. Apparently people live off the food in vending machines. But what I have heard is that a typical menu is cereal for breakfast, salad for lunch (salad being iceberg lettuce with minimal carrot shreds) and rice beans and some vegetables with occasional “eat at your own risk” meat loaf for dinner.
Money:
This is a complicated thing. Apparently you can get as much as you want sent in, but you can spend a maximum of $290 a month in the commissionary. That limited does not include phone minutes and stamps which we also need to purchase. However, if there is restitution involved the evaluate how much you are having in and they can “cease” apparently up to half if the see fit. Then somewhere else I read they can take all of it. The rule of thumb seems get $100 a month sent in and spend it and they will take $25 a quarter which is the apparent minimum. Going in I heard that you can western union yourself or take in a money order. Everyone is saying to take in $300.

Clothes:
From what I have read they strip you of course and mail back everything you come in with the exception of a plain wedding band and a plain religions symbol. Everything else is mailed to a family member at their expense. We are provided 3 of each long sleeve shirts, pants, underwear, socks and one pair of work boots. They do not provide sweats and apparently that is a very desired item to purchase so you can wear that lounging around, working out or even as sleep ware. Also, the work boots they issue can be used and are steel toed “Work Boots”. Certainly not what we are used to, so everyone also buys sneakers from the commissionary.

What to Buy:
The hot items I hear are sweats, sneakers, a radio with headsets, ear plugs (to help drown out the noise which is pretty bad from what I hear) and FOOD as much as possible.

What can be mailed in:
From my understanding, you can get written materials mailed in if the are soft back. Apparently they have to come directly from a publisher. Also, you can get subscriptions such as newspaper or magazines. Pictures can be sent in as well and other paper items that are not considered “stationary”. Pretty much, that is it. Not much can go in or come out. And they review everything that comes in and out.

Jobs:
Apparently in the Fed System we have to get a job. They range everywhere. I did hear there are some teaching positions though to help other get their GED’s. With out educations I am praying that we would be given those positions.
