My husband left county March 14th headed for Tehachapi. I have not heard from him. I have verizon phone service. Is it true that he may not be able to call me collect with verizon service? And if this is true.......what service do I need to get. Thank you for any information.

Hi usually when an inmate arrives in Thachapi I don't think they can calls right away. It depends if he is in general population, reception or in SHU (security housing unit) also known as the hole. The inmates in reception or in SHU or not allowed phone call. I have Verizon as well but I don't thing you can get calls from a prison but what I did when my Fiance was in county was he would call my house phone and if I was not going to be home I would forward my calls to my cell phone and they would go through. So you might try that but that means your husband would have to call your house phone not your cell. You can also call the prison to get information on your husband.Good Luck and God Bless

Do you have Verizon for your home phone service? From what I understand you wont have a problem getting calls because MCI will bill as a third party.

Your hubby will go to reception for awhile until he is assigned to general population. When my fiance got moved to Tehachapi he couldn't call and still can't (it's been 2 months now) but I got letters. I will tell you that first letter from Tehachapi was wonderful because it seemed like forever since I was able to have any contact with him.

Do you know when they can receive a quarterly package? Can they during reception?

No quarterly packages while in reception, and no books either. The best thing you can probably do is send him some money so he can get what he needs from the "store". That's what I've done. Hopefully by the 2nd quarter both our men will be in general population and allowed packages.
