My wife is at the FPC at Greenville. Does anyone have any news on federal legislation that would allow early release for 1st time non-violent offenders that have less than 1 year remaining on sentences? Any help would or info would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone heard of any new programs for early release in Florida State Prisons effective in October?
In the federal prison forum there is an article (the title is something about pain medication) from the Houston Chronicle which states that on Friday US Rep Sheila Jackson Hall introduced legislation to study good time for federal prisoner. I am going to try to find out more about this. My husband is at FPC Forrest City AR with 7 mos left on a 12 mo sentence. The way our luck goes, this legislation will pass the week after my husband comes home!
Hello MMP,
The US Representative's name is Shelia Jackson Lee. Just thought I'd clear that up for you. Good Luck!
This is not legislation to release prisoners early...it is only an amendment for a "study" of early release
Amendment is on H.R. 1829

Is this law that Sheila Jackson in trying to pass just for nonviolent ofenders
Thanks sgp. I don't know were hall came from. My mind is pretty foggy these days. Anyway, I believe the amendment does provide for the "study" of early release for nonviolent offenders. There is another thread on this topic that has the exact wording of the amendment.
