View Full Version : HOW Did You Meet A Person "On The Inside"?

I know a number of people here met their sweeties while that person was in prison. I'm just wondering HOW that happens? Because I don't see how you would have any contact with someone you didn't know, and you don't have visitation rights.

Did/do you work in the prison? Were you there visiting your brother, and happened to notice a cute guy in the neighboring cubicle? Or do they have visitation in large open places where people can intermingle with people who are not on their visitation list?

Once you hooked up, how did you get on the visitation list, if you're not family?

hmm...i was working there when we got to know each other, but i knew him on a hi and bye basis before then.

before igot with my hubby i had a friend on the inside. i met him through my sister, who had a boyfriend on the inside.

most visit lists allow friends, so all the inmate has to do is add you to their list.

I met my man when he accidently misdialed a family members number from county jail and got me instead. Soon after he was transferred to prison and we wrote, talked on the phone and a couple of months later I visited him at the prison. In Illinois with only a few exceptions you don't need to be a family member to visit. We continued for 14 months then he came home and our relationship grew even stronger. I know for some who have never experienced it, seems odd but for those that have trust me it is amazing...

Texas really kills me and I can only wonder if that's primarily political how they run their correctional facilities. In New York they don't have a visit list but they do maintain a log in the computer of who visits the man. So if I was going to see my husband and wanted to bring someone, they'd have to fill out a registration form. If it turns up they have no warrants and the like -- you're in.

I went to the prison with an associate in 1996. I didn't want to be in on her visit so I told her to tell her man to have someone there for me to visit with. It was my intention to just spend the day together and then never see him again. But when he saw me, and then we spoke 'n stuff -- he had other intentions. :p

I met my baby when I brought his younger brother (who was a client of mine) to visit him. I had no problem getting on his list, thank God.

I had a boyfriend who was in County and I visited him every Sunday. He ran into a guy he knew years before and I guess they talked quite a bit while they were in there together. My boyfriend got out and had given our number to this guy in case he needed anything. Well he called asking for my boyfriend who wasn't home and asked if I would call his kids grandma and tell her where he was. I did. About a month later he called again asking for my boyfriend and again he wasn't there and he asked me to make a call to the grandma again cause he was being transferred to Cali. He also asked if I could find him a pen pal. I made the call for him and then started writing him. My boyfriend and I had not been getting along for about 2 years and this man tried to help me and my bf. My bf left me and my pen pal and I started to fall in love. We've been married 3 years in Jan.

I originally worked for criminal attorneys and had a client who was convicted and sent to Lancaster (CA). Naughty boy that he was, he was thrown in the hole. He had Obe call me. One thing led to another and Obe and I started writing. After about 6 months or more, I went to visit him and the rest is history. Lots of history!

fyi: At the particular prison my man is in, Shawnee CC, here in Illinois only immediate family members can visit if the inmate is in segregation, thankfully my man is in general population. I know that has not been the case at other places he's been where anyone could visit. I imagine it varies from state to state and facility to facility.

You don't have to be family to visit someone in prison.

In Texas, to get contact visits you do have to be immediate family-plus, you have to already be on their visitation list to be able to visit.

I met my man through my daughter's boyfriend. They were both in the same facility. We started writing and then phone calls. Through the out of state transfers and all that DOC has thrown at us we just became closer. We are engaged to be married and if DOC ever sees fit to send him back to original state of residence we will be married. :D

My man's mom goes to the same church as my mom. His mom asked if my mom would write him a quick note. She did and once I read his first letter, I had to get to know him.... we have been writing 2-3 times a week every since. ...I should get the first call from him in a week.....!!!!!---MOTHER KNOWS BEST, RIGHT?

I worked inside and got into a relationship with someone. When that didn't work out I wrote to a friend of his just to ask him to check in on him to be sure he was all right. This friend wrote me back to see if I was all right. We started writing as friends and things progressed from there. Hopefully they will keep progressing!!!

I worked at the facility he was incarcerated at. Please don't get it twisted though, we don't go to these jobs or facilities with the thought of meeting someone, as in my case I was the most judgemental of them all I think...I couldn't see for the life of me how an educated woman, I am an RN, could fall for an offender...that is until I met my guy. I had worked there for approx 8 months, had had contact with approx 2,500 or more offenders, and had never even thought of it being a possibility, But from the moment of our first conversation, I knew he was different...he worked in the medical clinic so we were able see each other everyday...through conversation and actions we developed a friendship, that grew into love...that was 22 months ago, he is home now and as my siggy says...it is wonderful...

We had a project at work involved with his case and I interviewed him. You didn't need to be on a list or anything to visit at county jail, just a drivers license.

In texas you dont have to be family, only rule we deal with is if you used to work there and them you have to wait 24 months to apply, they may or may not let you visit.

Oh yea, I used to be a CO, after I quit I looked him up, we started writing, now we are married.

Most of the units have regular visits, so if you are a friend then you get one of those.

I had wrote and visited 2 other guys I met through a friend. I went to visit them (seperately and at different times of course) and they both started to pressure me to bring them things. I said a quick good bye and gave up. About a year later my friend asked me to write my now husband. I was skeptical but did so anyway. 2 years later we were saying our I dos. I never had a problem getting on their visiting lists or getting off of them. We celebrate our 18th anniversary next month. I have no regrets with him.

I met my man in prison because i use to work on the unit he was on. We met through this other offender who knew him. He said he knew who i was but i didn't know him until that day, and when i did i felt something before i ever talked to him. We started talking and then wrote each other through a friend of his and mine. Well, i don't think i can be put on his visitation list until September, but i will be able to around that time. I do know in Texas anyone can be put on their visitation list, but they are only allowed 10 on there. The immediated family is the only ones allowed contact visit. I won't get that unless we marry while he is in there.

Met him through a pen-pal ad in March. He told me whenever I was ready to visit, let him know (that was in July). I was placed on his visiting list and was seeing him in August. Here in Illinois, you don't have to be immediate family to visit.

I met my ex through another ex boyfriend while they were locked up together. Then my most recent ex was out of jail for all of two weeks, we met up during that time (outside of jail) only for him to get locked up again.
The rest is history... he's been in ever since, the past 11 years. Friends and more... off and on through the duration.

He was my former b/f's workout partner. When he found out that my b/f got out and acted like an idiot he wrote me a very nice letter to tell me that not all prisoners are jerks. I was angry at first, but then I wrote back and we quickly became friends. It wasn't long before we fell completely in love.

Here in MI you don't have to be family to be on the visitation list!

Well here is my story.... I have a friend who was friends with this woman and she had this guy in prison that she was using. I know odd that she was using him, anyway he sent her money had his family get her a car and on and on. When she spoke about him and they way he talked to her and loved her and treated her, I always felt do bad for this man I did not know. She came out and said she did not care about him, she was sleeping with others. ( I never liked this woman since day one but had to be pleasant when I saw her out of respect for my friend) Anyway she said that she wrote him a letter and dumped him because she found a man on the streets that would take care of her fat a$$. This man wrote to my friend and asked her "why E did this to him and what did he do wrong that she left him?" well my friend kept contact with him while E was off with some other poor schmuck.
After about 6 months I could not get this man off my mind I felt so bad for him and I remember sitting there while she spoke of him and thought damn how was she so lucky to find such a great man. Anyway..... I asked my friend for his name and number and I wrote to him and we have been together ever since and her loss is definitely my gain. He is the most wonderful man I have ever met. He is honest, gorgeous, smart, sexy, and the love of my life. I was blessed to have found him. By the way she was highly upset when she found out that we were not onlyh together but married. She wrote him a letter and wanted to come back and that she was wrong. He never responded.

Hi I met my husband through my daughters boyfriend at the time. He was in Lawton with my hubby. Ray gave my daughter his address over the phone when she was talking to Steve. And we started writing to each other. Then he put me on his visiting list and I started going to see him. And after our first visit we fell madly in love. We are married now since Nov 2005, we met in May 2003. I have never missed a month until Jan. We got our visits suspended for 3 months because I had a Lighter in my purse. but I will be getting My visits back after april 3.:)

I've already responded to this thread but every time I see it the devilish side comes out in me and I want to say, "Well a genie walked up to me but it was a ghetto genie so of course I didn't get three wishes instead two choices. Choice one ~ I'd win the lottery and would NEVER have to worry about money again. Choice two ~ I could meet the man I've been waiting for all of my life but he is in prison. Um I'll take choice two please!" If it had happened that way, I'd be as happy as I am right now. Money cannot buy happiness...

Okay so the devil made me do it,

I have to say that I am really surprised by the number of people who met while they were working at the prison! I guess those relationships go on more than the public knows about! I have a question for you all. Did you all decide to quit your jobs when you knew the relationship was inevitable? Or did you continue working? Just curious!

It is not hard to meet anyone that your searching for there are all kinds of forms out here. There is a life time of pen pal sites as well. I met my man Thur a site this is my 2 try at this since the first one did not work out. Some met their friends of friends some meet their relatives some meet their pen pal ads. It is the same thing for looking for someone on the outside i figure but then again that is just my opinion. I travel to see who i want to see. My baby that i am with now he is in Ny i will be going to see him in December. some places you just show up with your id and you gt to see the person. Some places you have to get on a visiting list. So when you meet a man on the street fore the first time is he not a stranger as well? Or was that part over looked in the thought process?

well i met my fiance through a friend of mine who was on the inside. Iwas writing to him and he asked me if i knew this guy by the name of...(his name) an i said, as a matter of fact i do. He happened to be my brothers old friend from when they were young. So anyhow my friend gave him my address so he can ask for my brother. Cause it had been years since they heard from eachother long story short we were writin letters back and forth for about 1 year. When finally he popped a cute lil question: If i'd be his lady? I said yes without a dought. And now its gonna be 4 years since we've been together.
