View Full Version : Netflix
Ms.Heather 10-14-2004, 08:33 AM Has anyone here ever used this Net-Flix thing I get a pop up about all the time?! I wanted to try it out but haven't ran into a person who used it. It seems like a good idea, I'm just wondering how it really is.
Anyone?!
freckledgrl 10-14-2004, 03:03 PM My sister has used it for about half a year now and loves it. The main thing is are you willing to pay for the convenience? Unless you stay on it and get every movie sent back in time to get the new ones, you'll probably pay a touch more than you would at the video store.
But on the plus side, you get to set up an order list way in advance. You also can manage that list at any time. So you pick the movies you want to rent in a running list and they send from your list. They also tell you how long the wait for certain movies are based on their popularity on other people's lists.
The way it works is that they send you, I believe, the top 3 available movies on your list. They come in a paper envelope with just the disk. Inside is another paid envelope that you send the disk back in with. You watch them whenever you want. When you send one back in, it takes about 2-3 days for them to process it and send the next available one on your list out to you.
I think it's really great if you can afford it and watch a lot of movies. It's also good if people in your home watch different types of movies so you don't have to wait for them to finish before you get a new one.
Hope that helps!
Lysbeth 10-14-2004, 03:06 PM My neighbor here in the duplex has been using Netflix for a long time now. No problems and very happy with it...
Cottontail 10-14-2004, 03:13 PM I love it!!!
You are able to build a movie list of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING!!!
What I love best is that you get 3 movies at a time, and you keep them AS LONG AS YOU WANT, with NO late charges. I would rack up $10.00-15.00 in late fees alone at Blockbuster. Plus I have a DVD burner and the movies from Netflix are burnable somehow!!! I'm building quite the movie collection.
As soon as you send ONE back you get a new one, so you can keep two and return one, etc.
Also it sent right to your door, and when you are ready to return them they provide you with an envelope to send right back.
It makes things easy I think! I recommend it highly!!
asweetangel99 10-14-2004, 04:09 PM My aunt has been using them for about 2 years and loves them too. She often will get some new dvd's and bring them along when we travel to watch on a portable dvd player, quite a time waster on the plane, car, etc.
~StArFiSh~ 10-14-2004, 04:16 PM I have it and I like it. You get 3 movies at a time and you pay like 22.00 a month. You get to make list of all the movies you would like and they send them to you. It takes about 2-3 days on average to get a movie. If you do it one at a time you could get a movie like every other day. They were having a special of 2 weeks free that way u can try it out.
Wingy 10-14-2004, 04:32 PM I am a letter carrier and a lot of my customers use netflix.. i have asked a few of them about it and they are all happy with it, no complaints at all... if i ever get a dvd player I think i would go that route...
Ms.Heather 10-16-2004, 03:39 AM Thanks all for the input... I think I'm gonna sign up for it and see how it goes. :)
rottn 10-16-2004, 09:15 AM It's a great service. No late fees, which fits my life perfectly.
shortyncute 07-18-2005, 08:18 PM I dont know if this is in the right area, but Im sure they will move it if not. Anyways I just joined Netflix. Its so much cheaper than blockbuster. and they get sent to ur house. The shipping is FREE woohoo. Im sure its included in the price of the monthly fee, but u know..nothing is free.
My question is does anyone else have this and how do u like it? Ill let eveyrone know when I get it. They sent me a email and told me it was going to be sent out tomorrow.
aztkgirl 07-18-2005, 08:27 PM I use it and I LOVE IT!!! It is cheaper, no late fees and you get your movies sooo fast! and when you mail them back, they receive them like next day and out they mail the movies you've chosen on your list. I love to stay home and watch movies and I really enjoy using them. I hope you like using them as much as I do!!
shortyncute 07-18-2005, 08:31 PM Yea, its a LOT cheaper than the movies or blockbuster. Plus I got a lot of movies for my son. He got to pick them out. I went and put a movie for him, one for me..etc. Thanks for ur opinion. Plus Donald is due out soon and he has been down for 5 years. He has a lot of movies to catch up on :)
California Sunshine 07-18-2005, 08:41 PM I'm still in the dark ages and only have a VHS player so can't use it :( They only have DVD's right?
Willsgirl 07-18-2005, 08:46 PM I have it and I love it. I get 3 movies at a time and since it is here in the DFW area, it only takes it one day to get here.
shortyncute 07-18-2005, 08:49 PM I signed up for the 3 movies..I know my son..he is a HOG w/the movies lol
Sunshine, yes, I think they only carry DVD's sorry..girl..come to the light lol
michellelynnwil 07-19-2005, 12:07 AM I have them and they are great
zigan04 07-19-2005, 01:52 AM My parents have it and absolutely love it!
shortyncute 07-19-2005, 05:49 AM Im so glad there is this positive feed back about them. Thanks everyone!
zotay 07-19-2005, 07:36 AM I LUV netflix! I'm glad I don't have to deal with the snotty kids at Hollywood Video anymore! (Plus they always charged me late fees when I dropped it off on time!) Netflix was the best idea ever!
HaPPy's WiFeY 07-19-2005, 09:09 AM I had Netflix for 3 years I loved it. I live in San Jose and thats where the movies ship from. They arrived to me usually the very next day. I moved for 6 mo. and then it took a bit longer for the movies to reach me. I stoped using Netflix because 4 movies I mailed back never made it there and it caused problems. Blockbuster does the same thing so I get movies through them now. I've been with them 9 months.
California Sunshine 12-04-2005, 11:18 AM Has anyone used Netflix? Is it really as easy as it seems and a good deal too?
I finally broke down and bought a DVD player so thought I might split the mo. netflix fee with my cousin as it sounds like a good deal
any experience with it?
raeannii 12-04-2005, 12:14 PM I used it a couple years ago and loved it.
shortyncute 12-04-2005, 12:21 PM I use Netflix all the time. I love it. Its cheaper than going to the movies :) or blockbuster.
windwalker 12-04-2005, 01:20 PM We just got it and we love it. OMG. It is awesome, epecially when you love movies like we do.
Reccommends: Memoirs of a Geisha, Bewitched, and I Am Sam.
LeaAnn 12-04-2005, 03:43 PM I've used it in the past and it works out really great I think.
softheart 12-04-2005, 03:46 PM I have used it and really liked it.

Jade01 12-04-2005, 08:05 PM My mom had Netflix and thought it was great. I used Blockbuster's service that is just like Netflix and loved it (you also got 2 free Blockbuster rentals a month to use at your local store if you have one near you) - but I just don't rent enough movies to make it worth much.
jelly belly 12-13-2005, 11:26 AM Netflix = Really great! My favorite part is the list of movies that you want to watch and then they are sent to you in order. Great selection and easy to use. Highly recommended.
Livinoac 12-13-2005, 08:04 PM I had it for a few years and loved it! :)
DENIMBLUE 12-13-2005, 08:17 PM ...I have Netflix and I like having movies sent to me! Whenever a new movie comes out that I know I want to see...I put it on my list to receive once it is released!
mikem2341 01-05-2006, 03:24 AM Netflix is great and very easy to use, best part is no more late fees!! For you video gamers look into GAME FLY, same principal, different media. You can buy the video or game from either and much less expensive than most stores. Hope you enjoy.
California Sunshine 03-18-2006, 10:44 AM Merged all netflix threads so they would be in one spot.
BTW I am very happy with it,I think it is a great deal so far :)
4MyBabyBoy 03-19-2006, 06:39 AM i have been using netflix for about a month now...its good, but recently i had to report one of my movies missing and it seems like the rest have been taking longer to get here. not sure if its the postal service or netflix..but overall i'm happy with it.
ca_girl 03-20-2006, 05:09 PM I've used it for over a year & love it. I'm right by a main post office, so when I mail them out, they get them by the next day & mail out my next ones that same day. I then typically get them the day after that (for example - I mail out Monday, they receive Tuesday & mail out my new one that I get on Wednesday!). I've had 2 lost. Once it was coming to me (it showed up over a week later then it was supposed to & I had recieved my replacement the same day!) & the other, they never got back.
It might be that your post office just takes forever! I've had to send one (maybe 2) back because it was too scratched. I have a ton of stuff on my queue too, so I'm constantly re-organizing!
I also just bought a movie through them, but I have to watch it to make sure it's not scratched, or anything...
Daveswife 03-20-2006, 09:46 PM I like Blockbuster online better. They have the new stuff available sooner and you get free in store rentals every month also. I switched from Netflix. I pay $10 and I could get near 20 movies a month depending on how fast I watch and return them.
Lysbeth 03-31-2006, 02:29 PM I'm very happy with Netflix. The center that mails and receives mine is here in my city so if I send something back on Tuesday, the next one gets here Thursday. No problems and very thrilled with it.
I understand Blockbuster is not bad but their selection is smaller and I watch a lot of offbeat stuff, so I'll stick with Netflix.
BlueYonder 09-29-2008, 08:55 AM I tend to flip back and forth from Netflix to Blockbuster - depending on the deal at the time. If you cancel, they keep trying to get you back.
Netflix has more rare films, but Blockbuster lets you trade the mail-in movies with movies from the store, so they're both good.
Jennie27 10-17-2008, 11:35 AM I love Netflix. They are very timely and have a wide selection.
cherryblossoms 11-09-2008, 06:30 PM I've had them for a little over 2 years now. I LOVE THEM!!!
I also love that you can watch movies online!!
goinginpa 11-17-2008, 02:23 PM If you live near a blockbuster you should check out their total access, you can make a list of things to be mailed to you same as netflix, but you also have the option of taking them back to the store and getting a free rental so if you wanted Wall-E when it came out but they didnt have it online you could go to the local store and swap for it,
price plan i used was
BLOCKBUSTER Total Access Premium
$19.99 / month (plus taxes)
3 at-a-time, Unlimited mailings
Unlimited in-store movie exchanges
+1 FREE bonus Movie or Game Rental E-Coupon / Month
LuvnMrSmiley 11-17-2008, 02:50 PM I had Netflix for a while... I liked it....

Do you still get this deal?!? I was on the Blockbuster plan also where we could get unlimited in-store exchanges (we live one mile from blockbuster) but then they raised their price to $24.99 and you only get 5 in-store exchanges!! :blah:
Have they changed it recently?! I would love to do that again as we were getting ALOT of rentals for the $20.00 monthly fee. We were able to get about 15-20 movies a WEEK with this plan. Then they changed the in-store exchange to only 5 per month so I cancelled it!! I just did not think it was worth it when they upped the charge and lowered the service. :(
