Hello everybody...My husband is headed to Mule Creek today...He is being transfered from SCC Jamestown. I was hoping that they would send him to Donovan so that he would be closer to home, but I should have expected them to send him futher away from his family! I live in San Diego, so it's a ways away to visit. I will most likely wait for "family visits", but who knows, maybe if there is a special on plane fares, i'll make the trip up there for regular visiting...My understanding is that it will be some where around 10 days before he is able to call me. How long did it take for your first phone call? If your man wanted a job, was it easy for him to get one?
Well, I look forward to getting to know you all....Have a great weekend, and happy visiting for those of you lucky ones! :)

Welcome to Mule Creek!!

Yes it takes just about 10 calendar days for orientation. My husband got his job just a few weeks after he got there. I think it depends on a persons classification in regards to jobs and the likelyhood of getting one. You could fly into Sacramento and since you come from so far if you come every thirty days then you wont get terminated. Which is a blessing because visits are terminated ALL the time at Mule Creek because it gets crowded. Sometimes you are lucky if you get 2 hours! From what our guys say Mule Creek is one of the better prisons to be at if you can even say that;) Feel free to join us in our chat thread and once again Welcome!!!

Ant, welcome to the Train as I call it. Please come join us on Mule Creek Posse Chat. You will be member #7!

Yes, orientation is about 7 - 10 days. My fella just got off today from coming out of the penthouse as I call the hole. Jobs are a bit scarce, but hopefully he'll get one. Is he in the EOP program? That will get him a job faster for sure.

Take care and hope to see you around our chat thread.

Wow so he is out of orientation! That is great!!!

Actually, he just got there yesterday morning, so he is still in orientaion. However, he was able to call me! I was surprised to get a call from him, I had been under the impression that they were not able to use the phone during orientation! He told me otherwise! We are actually very happy about the phone policies at Mule Creek! At SCC, the phone calls were very limited. He said that sun-thurs, he can call all the way up until 9pm, and fri& sat, he said the phones stay on until 2am!!!! We will have to watch the phone bill, now that the phone is so accessible, and he doesn't have to go stand outside in the phone booth freezing his bunz off while he talks to me!!
Does anybody have an idea of how long it takes to get your firstfamily visit once you get there?? We had only one at SCC, and now we are waiting anxiously for our next one! It was truly an amazing experience!!!

I am in the process of applying for family visits!:D I had a little set back in the application process so that set things back about two weeks. When my husband first turned in the application it sat on the counselors desk for about a week! Then after he approved my husband it went to the visiting sergent to check me out..that is when the delay came about. Right after I got everything cleared up on my side my husband resubmitted the application to the family visit coordinator that was just this week. He got it back on Wednesday because he didn't total the food order up right:eek: As of Friday he hadnt heard anything, we are waiting for a date now. So really it hasn't taken that long if I didn't have that set back I think I would have had a date already. A gal who used to have family visits at Mule Creek said that from the time they turned app to when they got a date was 2 months. How long did it take at SCC?

Ya the phone situation at Mule Creek is really nice...if I could afford it my husband would call everyday 10 times. Right now we he calls once a day sometimes once every other day. It is getting expensive with just that.

Hello,
I've been reading all the posts about visiting...My husband just got transfered to Mule Creek last week and I'm driving from the LA area. I really don't want to make that long, long drive and then not be able to visit.....Is the visiting set up that I've been reading about accurate or has anything changed recently? Also which one of those hotels is the best to stay at? All feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! Welcome to Mule Creek! Since you come from so far (250 miles or more) and if you come only every 30 days then you will not get terminated. If you go every weekend like some of us then yes you will get terminated! Other than the first day my visits are usaual only two hours.

Feel free to join us in our chat and again Welcome!:D

smaldove - I live in LA too. If you go up every 30 days then they wont terminate you both sat. and sun. they might try to pull a fast one on you on sunday and try to terminate you but tell them you drive from LA and they will call visiting processing and they will say you are not terminated.

For me, I take the 99 and stay in Galt at the luxurious (sarcasm) Royal Delta Inn coz they let me check in Sat. morning at 5am without charging extra and the room is only $48 including tax.

Join us in the chat and we can talk more.

Hello ladies,
Thank you very much for the warm welcome and the information, it's greatly appreciated....So they do terminate? :( Well, being that it's so far, I think I will only be going up there 1 weekend a month. Especially with gas prices the way they are, then have to pay for a hotel and a 2 day visit.....It's too far to go more frequently, every 30 days is good for me but of course a 2 day visit will be mandatory. I had a friend that use to go up there awhile back and she use to get 4 day visits....I take it they stopped that huh? Is the staff up there pretty cool? What's the visiting process like, does it take forever? I know where we just came from the line went on for days, we had to line up in our cars at least by 3am just to be like #30.

eiilopez is that your baby? She's the first thing I noticed when I came into this forum....How old is she? She's adorable.....

Loving you....What part of LA do you live in? How long does it take you to get up there?

Smal, they start lining up by 7:30a (even sooner) for sure at the Train even though the rules state you're not even supposed to be in the parking lot before 7:45a. I've gotten there before 8:00a and been #17 and another time #54 so go figure. Highest I've ever been getting there at 8:30a is #74. They process pretty fast. Longest part is waiting in the line to go through the metal detector. Just remember not wear an underwire and take off any jewelery that isn't gold including hairclips. No denim, no studs or metal on clothes and you'll go through lickety split! Right now visiting days are only Saturday and Sunday. There is some talk about the possibility of adding another day, but don't hold your breath!

We chat under this same forum and the thread is Mule Creek Posse Chat. Please come join us there. You can be Mule Creek Posse Chat #8!

Our litta group is growing! :yay:

OMG!! Where did u have to line up at 3am!! That is insane! On my visit to MC I got there at 7:30 and could not believe there were only like 10 people in line. Now I realize it is because they terminate!!!

Yes there used to be visiting on Thursdays and Fridays but they stopped that a long time ago due to budget and staff shortages so they say! There was mention in the IFC (Inmate Family Concil) Meeting notes that they might start a pilot program at MCSP for weekday visits! I would say for the most part the staff at MC is good. I have dealt with some pretty nasty people at other prisons so this place is cake.

That is my daugther!! She is six months old and growing fast!

Queenbeas21,
Well lining up at 7-730 am is a luxury and being number #74 is a cake walk compared to being #300 for lining up at 730am. A couple of times I got to visit like at 9-930, mind you they start processing at 830am, but anyway I got there at that time and got in to see my husband at 230pm. So it sounds like Mule Creek is going to be a piece of cake as far as processing goes. Thanks for the invite to the Mule Creek Posse Chat.

Eiilopez,
We are coming from Calipatria and believe me that place is a total mess!....The cars start lining up like the thurs night/fri morning before visits. They line the cars up out on the street in front of the prison. You get there by 9pm on fri and you're already like car #20. Then when you get there at 730am for you visit there's already like #30 more cars in front of you....and that's if you're even able to get to the car you left there because a lot of times someone has parked in your spot and told you that they aren't moving and there's nothing you can do about it.
So Mule Creek sounds like a stress free processing aside from that long drive I'm going to have to make. :o
Yes they do go up toooo fast....everytime I look at my boys I realize how fast they are growing and it reminds me how old I'm getting! :blah:

LovingYou,
It is very crazy and a lot of chaos....The prison doesn't even know what to do to rectify the situation because they have no control over it but get a lot of complaints.....You're right family visits would be a blessing....Unfortunatly we don't get them...If we did then that would be the only time I'd be going to see him at MC.

Thank your lucky stars you have never had to experience that hell!!! I mean it is HELL!! This is why I always say how impressed I am about the visitor processing at MC. I never wait more than 30minutes! We used to do that car line up crap at the butt crack or dawn at Soledad!! I never want to do that ever again!
