Hello everyone......Does anyone have any idea to how long it should approx. take for an inmate to receive mail while @ Wasco reception? I received my first letter from him almost a week after he first got there and he wrote to say it should take about 3 weeks for him to get mine. And also why does it take a minimum of 3 weeks do they hold mail for a reason or it just takes that long to prosess mail at first? I apprec. any answer thanks!

I don't know why, but when my son was in reception at Delano, it took 2-3 wks for him to receive mail from me. It took about 1 - 1 1/2 wks for me to receive what he sent out to me. It was very slow communication, but when I would get frustrated I would remind myself, slow communication was better than no communication. Good Luck! Take Care and God Bless!

My husband is in Wasco. We dont have a problem with mail. It takes the normal amount of time to and from.

Just a note. There is a difference in personal mail and "legal" mail.
There are rules regarding the opening of legal or non personal type mail..legal mail must be opened in front of the inmate..The personal mail is routed through a different PO BOX at wasco. There are a lot of guys in reception..and... most of the mail is opened and read through to some degree. Anything that contains a photo, or card..etc..figure an extra four or five days to deliver it. if you are lucky. So, don't put your letters with stuff you are enclosing for them..It took my husband almost three weeks to get my first letter to wasco...and I live in Bakersfield...I had put two photos in the letter..It sucks..The mail and the phone call situation is very hard to deal with when you are in the middle of appeals and stuff..and need to communicate..sooner than two weeks by pony express..."

The letters I receive from Wasco take two days. TWO DAYS! The trouble is, he never dates his letters, so I go by the postmark--from Bakersfield to San Diego in two days. It seems to take anywhere from 5-10 for mine to get to him. Yes, it's very frustrating, very difficult to "talk" about specific issues with the time delay. Like LisaL said, though, slow comm. is better than NO comm.!
