Hello,

Has anyone drove the 101 from LA to King City and then drove ( I think it's either the 198 or the 33) to PVSP? Does it snow in the foothills/mountains there?

I have to drive up to the prison tomorrow and there is supposed to be snow on the GrapeVine.

I've only taken the 5 the whole way from the LA area. I did go through the San Padres National forest on the way back once (horrible, and the worst idea if there is snow), but that is another story.

From within California, call 800-427-ROAD (7623). This is the number for the road conditions. It is voice activated and up to date. I used it last weekend going to PVSP, when it snowed! Good luck and have fun! -C

The reason I asked is because there is supposed to snow in Gorman tonight and my husband called last night saying he went out of the prison Wednesday night with severe chest pain and his blood presure was 200/150 and I am having a melt down!! So I need to see him ASAP!!

Kelly!!! I hope your husband is all right!! :(

I come from the other way on 101 (north) so I don't know about that part.

But I take the 198 all the time. It is a really pretty, curvy road, sometimes gets icy or foggy but I've never seen snow there. It takes around an hour to get to the prison from the 198 exit on 101.

But be careful with the ice especially if you're going at night.

Kelly,

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband, I hope that he is all better now and that you get to see him safely. Also, here is the link to road conditions thing, it's the same as the 1-800 number that ixqgod gave you.

I talk to him again last night and he is doing ok. He's ALIVE!! OMG!! He was totally dying!! I still can't believe he's back at the prison!! Anyway, he didn't want me driving up there with the bad road conditions and I didn't want to stress him out, so I didn't go up there today.

I'm glad that your husband is doing just fine, good thing that you decided not to go, I've heard some pretty nasty stuff about the roads over there. The last time I went to PVSP they had sand going through the Grapevine because there was ice on the pavement.

Another route you can take is, 101 North to the 46 East to the 5 North. It might be a little longer but you won't have to take the 198....it's not the best of routes. You really have to pay attention when driving it. If you can't take the Grapevine, I suggest the route I gave. I know this is probably too late, but helpful for the future.

Hey everyone!

My man is being transfered there (PV) this week... so I would like to know if anyone drives there from Ventura County?; What's easier? Taking the 5 or the 101?
