my son just went to Patuxent today....Does anyone have any idea what it is like there......He was at ECI and he was doing fine.....no problems.
Just wondering is Patuxent known as a violent place??? I mean they are all cages etc but some are better than others......and do they have vending machines when you visit to buy inmates soda etc?????
Thanks, NanaMom

Patuxent is known to be for those who are "crazy", and you have to be eligible to be admitted there. So I assume that you have to have some sort of mental issue to be accepted, not sure how severe it must be.

I'm not insinuating in any way that your son is crazy; please dont take it as that. I know a retired C.O. from there who worked there for 18 years and he stood it for that long so it cant be too bad. But I really don't know. All prisons are dangerous in general but I'm sure everything will be alright. It's better than the cut or the annex....

As far as I know, it is for people with some mental challenges as well as substance abuse. However, there are instances were things are bad at any prison, because it is a prison. That being said, because it is like a hospital so to speak, people are getting help, and the enviornment is more controlled as apposed to a regular prison.
I would say not to worry, but by all means call and keep in touch with his Case worker, tell him to keep you informed of what is going on and it does help when the staff knows that there is somebody on the outside that is concerned and will fight for the rights of their loved one.
