View Full Version : What is "X wing"????
Nancbee4 03-16-2006, 09:36 PM I was so excited today...my son is finally off of lockdown and I had an appointment to visit him. I just knew how surprised he was going to be!! I was the one who was surprised. I got to San Quentin an hour early and waited until they were ready for me to go in. That's when they told me he was transfered to SOLEDAD yesterday!! I cried all the way home. Now I am told he is in "X wing" and he can have a visitor but I might want to stay in a hotel so I can be there EARLY!! How early? What is X wing? Should I wait until I hear from him?? Can he call me from X wing? He has not called so far. If I come at 10 or 11 AM to visit will I still be able to get in?? Thanks for any info!!!!! Nancy:confused:
meganyg21 03-16-2006, 11:15 PM No he can not call you from X-wing. Jenn can you help her out with all of these questions..you are the expert:thumbsup:

Kevin's Jenn 03-17-2006, 12:46 AM He can't call from X wing. X wing is basically "the hole" THey are there before they are classified for their own protection. The committee needs to make sure they have no enemies, etc... before they let them into a yard. If you visit it is non contact. I got there at 8am and saw him at 11 am. You wait in line with everyone form CENTRAL. Make sure you are in the CENTRAL line. to the far left next to the shrubs. Is he ad/seg or just in classification. If it is ad/seg they call them first, but for those being classified you wiat with everyone else. I would contact his counselor just keep calling till you talk to him and find out what the deal is!!!!!! PM me if I have totally confused you.

shawnie21 03-21-2006, 10:29 PM X-wing is the administrative segregation area, aka "the hole". It is the worst thing to be in. My boyfriend was put in there when he first got to CTF, because he is a Northern Hispanic and he was put in a "Bulldog area" I am not familiar with them though. He also is bi-polar and should be on meds. That is not offered at Ctf. They cannot go anywhere without being in hand cuffs, and ankle chains. When they shower their arm in chained to a pole. It is like protective custody. I got on the internet and researched administrative segregation . If they already have depression problems this area will drive them crazy. They are offered no interaction with others, they are fed through a hole in the door. I pushed alot to have him transferred as fast as possible. He had never complained until he got there. He said he felt like he was living in hell. Find out who is counsler is, and definately stay on top of him as far as transfering him ASAP. If you dont get satisfaction with the counsler, go above him to his supervisor. The decision on how or if you want to handle this is yours, I am just telling you about my experience when my boyfriend was there. Good luck though. Just keep those letters coming to your boyfriend so he doesnt feel alone.
meganyg21 03-22-2006, 12:41 AM CTF has two different wings for Administrative Segregation X-wing and O-wing. Most of the cells are double occupancy you would think because it is the “hole” that it would be solitary confinement but I am assuming because of over crowding that they are limited on space. In the regular housing unit the doors are solid with a small window but in O-wing and X-wing you have bars for the doors. CTF’s Administrative Segregation is basically the same as being on Lockdown. When inmates are locked down on a programming yard they go through the same situation as Ad Seg…. cell fed (unless they are in the dorm they will still walk to chow), escorted to medical/dental/visiting in waist and ankle restraints, no yard, showers every 72 hours, no packages, no canteen and so on.
As for the “Bulldogs” CTF does not house “Bulldogs”, I believe Pleasant Valley State Prison and Salinas Valley State prison do.

Kevin's Jenn 03-22-2006, 09:18 PM When they are being housed in X wing for classification it is not that bad. Kevin was never chained for a shower or anything like that. He was not escorted chained. Once he was classified and they were waiting to find him a perminat bed he was able to go to yard and use the phones as well as have our contact visits.
I am sure it is different if they are actually AD/SEG. He actually preferred being housed there cause there was no drama and chaos.
mstail30 03-23-2006, 11:50 PM my husband got transferred from wasco to soledad and i was wondering will i have to fill out a new visting form? this prison thing is new to me so if anyone could tell me about soledad it would hopefully ease my mind a little... thanks
Kevin's Jenn 03-24-2006, 08:52 AM No, I didn't have to fill a new one out. Just call to make sure that it got transferred. You don't get a contact visit for 2 -3 weeks. Till he is classified.
Happy Visiting.

CatfromHouston 03-30-2006, 04:39 PM I filled out one for Wasco and upon my son being sent to Soledad I called them(Soledad) and asked them if I had to fill out another one. They said yes and I told them, my son told me it would be in the computer and would follow him to wherever he went mainline after Wasco. The girl said doesn't matter you have to fill out another one.
She said she wouldn't check to see if it followed him as they "didnt'" do that.
NORA E 03-30-2006, 09:06 PM My friend has a penpal @ CTF she had applied to visit a while back ago when he was at Calipatria but she was denied. She has a common name so they told her to send in her fingerprints and a police reort, so she did in February 2006. Yesterday I got the number for visiting at CTF from a thread here on PTO so she called and was told to call back today between 6am-2pm which she did and she spoke to Sgt.Brown who by the way went out of his way to help her. He explained that they are short staffed in that dept. and he is the only one going thru the applications and he was starting to work on Febraurys applications she explained her situation to him he looked up her info in the computer and told her she had some kind of old domestic thing coming up on her record from 1997 after she explained the story of that incident to him he told her that the charges had been dropped 1 week after posting. He told her that he would review her app and to call back in a week. Well it must of have been her lucky day because 5 minutes later he called her to tell her that he found her app and there was no problem and she was approved.:D :D :D WHAT A NICE GUY
meganyg21 03-30-2006, 09:47 PM I looked in the CDC Title 15 and I found this
Section 3172.1 (G) –Any visitor approved for visiting at one institution/facility shall be approved to visit the same inmate upon transfer to another institution/facility provided the visitor’s approval status remains unchanged.
It always helps when you call the visiting department to ask for the Sergeant.

Nancbee4 04-01-2006, 08:01 PM I don't know what to think. My son was in "X-Wing" for orientation. I called a few days ago and they said he had been moved. I thought he was finally mainlined but his new address is XW207. Now I wonder if he is still in orientation but just moved. I am confused and I have tried to call the last three days but nobody ever answers. I call the operator, the mail room and inmate records and it just rings...I let it ring at least 50 times. I called yesterday in the AM, on my break at 10 AM and on my lunch at 11:45 but got nothing but ringing. I visited once but I told him I was not going to travel all that way again until he could have a contact visit. He told me then he was probably going to be placed in the central section but I have never gotten a call and the central section is off lockdown. What do you suggest??? Nancy
meganyg21 04-02-2006, 07:31 PM Friday was a holiday (Cesar Chavez) at the prison that is why no one answered your call. Correct me if I am wrong (central ladies) but Central has visits but they are on modified program during the week meaning no yard.

Nancbee4 04-02-2006, 10:48 PM Thanks for all the info Megan. I still want to try to find out if he is able to have contact visits or if he is still in orientation. Nancy
