Does anyone know if federal prisons can get books from Barnes and noble?
And if they can, can we buy the used copies (from authorized sellers from BN) or do they have to be new?
Also can they have soft and hard covers? Thank you!
Also is there certain info you have to put when you order?? Thank you again!!

Golden2206,
You can order from Barnes & Noble, just make sure they have his full address including inmate number. New & used are acceptable ONLY if they come from an official book store. You can send paperbacks yourself. It's cheaper if you ask for the media rate at the post office.

You can only send paperbacks yourself to certain institutions - not all of them. So you need to check with the prison or your inmate. Books can be send from a bookstore such as Barnes & Nobles. They need to be send via U.S. Postal Service ONLY. In a padded envelope, if possible, and not a box. Have the inmate's name and # on the address AND have them write "BOOK" on the outside of the package. I have found that Barnes & Noble have been a bit snooty about all these instructions. I've had better luck with Amazon.com and Powellsbooks.com. I put these special instructions at the very end of the order at Powellsbooks, where they have a place to ask for specific items. Zelda

I justed wanted to add one little warning to used books being bought through amazon, B&N, etc... According to policy, they are not allowed, and should be rejected. Now, that's not necessarily what happens all the time, but it can. So be prepared for it if it should happen to you.
