My fiance is to be transferred tomorrow 3/16 to CTF (Salinas Valley?). I do not know what yard he will be in. He was classified as a Level 1 but is being housed as Level 2 because it was the only available space.

Can I visit him while he is in Orientation? He said that it takes about 10 days then he will be re-housed within the prison and that I should wait to send mail. He also did not think we could visit. Does anyone know for sure if I can visit him during Orientation? I have already been approved to visit and have done so at NKSP. I do not care if it is behind glass but it would be great if it could be a contact visit. I have not touched him in almost 19 months!

Thanks for any information.

I am pretty sure that he can still receive visits while in orientation but they will be behind the glass until he goes to committee and they give him permanent housing within the prison. CTF (Correctional Training Facility) is the prison that is located closest to Hwy 101 whereas S.V.S.P. (Salinas Valley State Prison) is behind CTF. I put a picture of the prison with pointers as to where the different facilities are located.
They have Inmate Programs
PIA: Dairy, textiles, warehouse, wood products, silkscreen.

Vocational: Appliance repair, commercial paint, drafting, dry cleaning, electronic data processing, landscaping and gardening, machine shop, mill and cabinet, plumbing, printing, small engine repair, upholstery, welding, vocational computer refurbishing.

Academic: Adult Basic Education, High School/GED, Pre-Release, English as a Second Language, Literacy Program, Computer Assisted Education.

Other: Community Service Crews, Youth Diversion, Religious, Blind Project, Arts in Corrections, Victim Awareness, Drug Treatment/Diversion, Recycling.

Correctional Training Facility - Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Correctional Training Facility is to provide housing, programs and services for medium custody inmates.

Institution Details The Correctional Training Facility is a three-facility complex, each function independently of the others:

South Facility. The South Facility provides the complex with outside minimum custody workers. In addition, the facility offers academic, vocational and industrial assignments. The South Facility houses Level I inmates.

Central Facility. The Central Facility is a training and work-oriented facility that provides comprehensive academic, vocational, and industrial programs. The Central Facility houses Level II inmates and also includes the institution's Administrative Segregation Unit.

North Facility. The North Facility is a training and work-oriented facility that provides comprehensive academic, vocational and industrial programs. The North Facility houses Level III inmates.

Hope that helps

You can visit but behind glass. I did go when he was being classified but it sucks. You are in the same room as all the contact visits. But at least I got to stay for 4 hours. Just take money so you can get a drink. I didn't know. Kevin was also a level 1 housed in central. He stayed in Central but I like the visiting there No bus!!!!

Yes when you are passing on the highway you can see south facilities yard. On the picture below where I stated “south is not pictured” that is pretty much where South facility is at.

So is the Central Facility where I should go to visit him while in orientation, or does each yard have it's own orientation? Also, I am hoping to visit this Sunday, how early should I get there so that I can get a visit?

Thanks for the info!

All orientation is at Central X-wing. I would for your first time get to the prison at 6:30-7am no earlier. Go into the visitor’s parking lot, stay to the left for the line to the right is for SVSP, and get your pass from the officer. If you are not a morning person you can always cruise in later.

Are you going to visit next week after he has been classified???? I went before Kevin was classified and the non contact visit counted. SO when I went two weeks later for contact I was terminated. I wish I had not visited for non contact. I hated having to leave him early after getting to touch him. I

I usuallly get there at 8am and I am #55 or so I get in to see him at about 11am till 3pm. Which isn't so bad. I drive from Orange county so to get there any earlier I have to leave the night before. I usually leave at 3am and it takes 4 1/2 hours or so. He is in Central.

I just called the Records office to check on his housing and mailing address. I was told he is in Torro Dorm CTS North AND that yard is in lockdown right now. If all orientation is in Central X-wing, why would I be told he is in Torro Dorm North? Am I missing something here? This is a language all unto itself. I am beginning to pick up on it but sometimes........LOL Thank you both Megan and Jenn.

Maybe he has been clasified and since they are on lockdown they don't have phones.

He must have gone to classification already so now he is in Toro Dorm which is on the B-yard. Even though Southerners, Blacks and Whites are on lockdown on the B-yard if they are in Toro all races/groups are allowed visits.

He was classified as a level 1 while in Delano, but was under the impression that he has to go through 10 days of orientation once he reached CTF Soledad. He was just transferred or "Tranpacked" Thursday 3/16, but if he is truly housed where they said, does that mean if I visit I will get a contact visit? If so, I will be there on Sunday!
