I am seeing my father this weekend for the first time in 15 years. he has been in prison for over 20 and I was a little girl the last time I saw him. Any advice? anything I need to know?

I wanted to say Congrats on getting to see your dad. I can only imagine how nervous you are, and even how more nervous he is!

Be yourself, ask questions, answer them because I am sure he will have plenty, bring him some pictures (CA Prison Limit is 10, no bigger that 5X7) , and enjoy each others company!

what can i wear that will DEFINATELY be okay. when I was 15 I drove 5 hours to see him with my grandmother and had to sit inthe car for 7 hrs because something went wrong.

I would wear basic black if I were you, just so that there are no hitches. I am so happy for you. I know you must be so nervous! It is also very cold up there so you might want to wear something warmer. i kno it is easier said then done, but don't be nervous. Bring in one of those little travel packs of kleenex and make sure that it sealed. You might need it.

As the father of daughters who were young when I went to prison, I just wanted to stop by and say that your visit with your Dad will mean more to him than you will ever know.

Sadly, no they cant take the photos back with him, but you can mail them to him on your way out the visit! And yes just wear all balck, no open toe shoes and no underwire bra! Again Good Luck and have fun!

Make sure you wear a wireless bra. What prison are you going to?

Make sure your shoes have a strap no flip flops just to be safe. There are prisons that allow them, but for the most part they are not allowed.

all of you are so great, thank you. I will be at salinas valley. and unfortunately we have not been writing. I have to admit that dealing with this over the years has been EXTREMELY difficult for me and often I just have not. so.......he doesn't know that i am coming (this makes me very nervous) and now a woman has said i should be mindful that someone could "take my visit" if I am not there in a timely fashion. what time should I arrive to be sure i get to see him?

Between four and six am... those Salinas Valley girls take their visiting serious, huh General's Wife. LOL

Yes we take the line VERY serious!!! You better believe, but you have never been there, so they won't terminate you, don't worry about that. I would sugest that you get there as early as you can, that way you'll have a longer visit. And at Salinas Valley, you can wear strapless shoes and flip flops if you want. Just make sure that you have long enough sleeves. Short sleeve is fine, but not too short. Just enjoy yourself and have a good day. Do you know what yard he is on? I visit on C yard and if you see me, say hi!!! Hope your visit goes well!

thanks. I am getting pretty nervous here. wondering if I can wear green or beige pants and if any of the prisoners can not have visitors this weekend. I do not know tiers or yards or anything like that but he is Facility D, Building 4.

Don't wear GREEN pants!!! You can't wear blue jeans or any denim. You can't wear any green because the guards wear that color. Bring extra clothes to change into if you are not sure. Good luck!
