I heard that there was a new law passed in Calif. that can shorten the prison sentence of SO... Has anyone heard about this??? Patty

The only thing that happened was in reversing the statute that allowed for an extension of the statute of limitations on prosecution.

There was previously a statute of limitations (a number of years from date of commission of the crime) during which a prosecution must be brought or it expires and there cannot be a later prosecution.
They passed one law extending the statute to allow a handful of now-grown victims to prosecute crimes that 20-50 years old. The folks who've gotten convicted in those reinstated prosecutions just got relieved. They declared that the extension of the time to prosecute was inappropriate. The state vacated the convictions those people had and let them go.

Lots of folks aren't thrilled about this.
Those folks are in California.
Betchurboots that if anyone in the state was about to do something else NICE for sex offenders with convictions...they have gone underground.
