Shortie 06-01-2002, 09:34 PM Do you need any help or have questions about getting married in Texas to an inmate?? I have done it and have helped several woman so just let me know or post your questions. Texas is different with everything including there marriage practices to inmates..
Shortie 06-02-2002, 06:57 PM I helped Monty and his now wife get the ball rolling for there wedding. It is not traditional by any means. You have to get married by proxy and it done by a stand in. The groom has to fill out an affidavid stating they wish to marry you.
Then you take the affidavid and his birth certificate or id along with your to the courthouse. Then you pay $36 and get your license. You can use it in 72 hours and it has to be used within 30 days or it is void. Any jp or minister can marry you.. You just have to have the person you man designates as his stand in at the ceromony. it is very simply just a lonly type of wedding.
danielle 06-02-2002, 07:49 PM I had heard you mention getting married by proxy, but didn't know what it meant. I am glad you explained it.
Shortie - if ever I am in trouble, I want you one my side!
Shortie 06-04-2002, 08:53 PM of course you know i have your back girl LOL
CREAMYALMONDZ 06-05-2002, 07:35 AM I wonder if it is that easy to do in Virginia.
Shortie 06-05-2002, 07:10 PM i am not sure but it seems like it would be harder huh??
JOHN'S WIFE 06-06-2002, 12:58 AM shortie, i married my husband by proxy in jan. and my girlfriend maryjane stood in for my husband. here if your spouse has been in prison for over 2 years their id has been deleted from the dps office and they dont let you use their prison id. they dont want copies made. they have to give a sworn statement, they can get a copy from the law libary at the unit.and fill the statement out and take it to the courthouse. each unit is diffirent and so is each state. if anybody has questions the best way is to first call the prison then call your county courthouse and ask for the information and be sure to tell them what the prison well only use.
CREAMYALMONDZ 06-06-2002, 08:16 AM Virginia is usually strict but I would think Texas is more strict??? Maybe it's the same.

I thought I had it bad here in Arizona but it sounds like Texas takes the cake.

Shortie 06-10-2002, 08:30 PM yeah texas is hard. marriage by proxy is very hard and it is just sad to know that you do not even get to see your spouse when you get married.. to make matters worse i did not even get a contact visit until we had been married for like 5 months so it was even more intense then a normal visit it sealed out marriage.. :) i have learned to be greatful for the little things in life.
Shortie 07-04-2002, 07:37 PM This is the info on proxy weddings
johnswife 07-27-2002, 09:00 PM SHORTIE, WHY ARE YOU HAVING TO WAIT TO SEE YOUR HUSBAND BY CONTACT VISIT, UNLESS YOUR HUSBAND IS IN PC OR SEG. IF IN FACT HE IS HERE IN TX YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE HIM WHEN IN 2 WEEKS. THIS IS HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR THE CHANGE. HE HAS TO BE CASE FREE AND BE IN GP. I SPEAK WITH MY HUSBANDS UNIT 1 A MONTH. WE WERE MARRIED ON JAN 14TH AND BY THE 29TH WE COULD HOLD EACH OTHER. YOU MAY WANT TO CALL AND DEMAND TO KNOW WHY.
Cameo 07-28-2002, 06:02 PM Hey Shortie!

Shortie 07-31-2002, 07:42 PM Pam I am back. Do not worry... I am not going anywhere. Just had to deal with life and all that drama.. Send me those pic's so I can send them to Ant.. The one on paper is like $9.00 or so.. on poster board is $16..
RubenzChulita 08-03-2002, 04:42 PM Shortie,
I would check into that visitation thing as well. I saw my husband within 1 week because I brought the marriage license and presented it to the warden along with his rule book. I have helped alot of women in Texas with "rules and rights" and have a friend who is a x-guard. It's amazing how much you learn in all these years. WOW!
Ok, I have a question. If I am understanding things right, family members (wive's, children, parents) are allowed contact visits with those in GP. Now, my question is, there are guys in GP that have committed the same type of crime that those on DR have, but didn't get the death sentence because of lawyers, or whatever. Why can they get contact visits but not those on DR?
I know, probably a stupid question and looking for a logical answer.......... I tried :(

vim1946 08-15-2004, 06:43 PM Have any of you dealt with Eastham? My sweetie is in there, is in GP and has no family members close enough to visit so he has been there awhile with no visit! We have been told that because I am coming from Ohio to visit, instead of 2 hours each day on the weekend, we get 4 hours each day on the weekend because it is over 300 miles.
What I want to know is -- having grown up in Texas, I understand the proxy marriage thing, but have any of you done it at Eastham or known anyone who has?
Thanks -- I'm new to this forum, but not new to the feelings -- I've loved him for a long time!
Roger's Girl 08-15-2004, 08:35 PM Welcome to PTO Vim1946.
At the top of the weddings forum is a sticky that has very current Texas Proxy marriage info from a member that was just married in July. Please give it a look over.
Again, welcome to PTO.
Tears_N_Texas 08-21-2004, 07:40 PM I was just married as of August 16, 2004. In Dallas County (Texas) Not all state allow proxy marriages so find out if you can do it this way. If not you will have to go through the prison which is nothing short of drama. At least in Texas. Well all I had to do was get the Dallas County to send my husband out proxy papers, he filled them out and mailed them back in to the County Clerk's office. The trick with this is that make sure who ever the 2 of you have as a proxy comes with you to apply for the license. As soon as the completed papers have been received by the clerks office they will give you a call to let you know. Make sure HE mails the paper work back NOT you. Otherwise it is not valid. They have ways of checking where it came from. Well make sure you have a copy of his CERTIFIED birth certificate or a current drivers license or a valid Gov. issued I.D. in Dallas County a prison I.D. is not accepted. You will also need to present a current Gov. issued picture I.D.of yourself. It takes about 30 minutes to get your license. Have both social security numbers also. In Dallas county the fee is $41.00 in cash. You will get the license right away if all goes well. You have a 3 day wait. You either can make an appointment with the justice of the peace or do it with a qualified person who can perform marriages. It is as legal as if he was standing there. The cost to get married in Dallas County is $50 in cash if you do it with the justice of the peace. Make sure your proxy brings a current I.D. or you will not be allowed to get married. In Texas they are VERY strict about this. I had a very nice judge and he even took my photo. It turned out to be the prettiest one. It only takes about 15 minutes and you are legally married. The only problems I had was getting the certified birth certificate. I had to get an immediate famliy member to apply on my behalf. I got the birth record the same day and 3 days latter I applied and got the license. It was no problem once I had his brith record. This is for Dallas County ONLY. My proxy marriage went smooth. Good luck. I hope this helps.
Jesse's Girl 10-10-2004, 09:40 PM I need information about texas proxy wedding, can you help me please?
Lady Wabbit 10-10-2004, 10:12 PM I was married by proxy in Texas August 2002...However, in September 2002 they changed the rules about wedding bands. They wouldn't let my husband have his wedding band after we were married even tho we were married in August. The new rule is if they didn't have when they came in they don't get it. Also for those of you who are getting married...I don't know if it is unit by unit or not...I had to take my marriage license with me each time I went to visit for the first 4 months. Also, if you're going to put a family member ie:sister, brother or child on his visitors list you have to send a copy of each of their birth certificates along with your's to prove you are related or they won't be put on the visitors list as in-laws.
