How many times a week do inmates at MIN-MED security get to have visits? We have 2 kids 14 yr old boy 17 yr old girl that really want to see their Dad but we are both fearful of how it will affect them- Will they Pat them down too? Any thoughts or stories, and this seems dumb but what do the visiting rooms look like?

roarklyn66,
Please let us know what prison and what state? Visits and the rules and procedures will be different based on State or Fed and even within the State the visitiation rules change by prison.
Usually it is the Prisoners responsibility to send you the rules for visitation...
Also if you go to the Idaho DOC web site you may find the visiting rules on that site for the particular prison. If it is a Fed prison the visiting rules on the BOP site are general for all Fed prisons...

Hi. I have visited in a Max Fed facility for a while now and have never been patted down. We go thru metal detectors, sans shoes which go thru an xray machine, and sometimes are inspected with an ionic scanner for controlled substances, ie dope. I have never seen anything but a family environment out in the open, but it would be up to you to make the call. Have you thought of visiting the first day just you and him and then the next day taking the teenagers? It would give you a chance to see if you think the environment is something you want to subject your children too. But, I know their father would love to see them as much as they would love to see him. Good luck.

Roarklynn66,
Hi! and Welcome to PTO.
Teb as already ask you the essential questions needed to answer part of your questions.
In answer to others....in most prisons that I know of....everyone gets patted down. NO doubt, its going to be uncomfortable for your kids at first.....but they are old enough to understand it. GEttiing to see Dad at the end of the process is ususally enough keep the uncomfortableness at a minimum.
Members who take their kids to see Dad on a regular basis will be along to share some information with you AND your kids! Good luck!

The kids probably won't be as nervous as you think they'd be. I see kids go thru the line where I visit and they are so eager to see their loved one they don't seem to mind the search. I go to a max security facility. We walk thru a metal detector. Then at a search room we take off our shoes and get patted down. they probably won't boy your son down as thoroughy as the adults. They would probably have you and your daughter in the room together.

I visit at a max prison here in California. My 11 year old son goes with me all the time and he doesn't have problem with it. Other than he gets bored quick during visiting.
We only have to take our shoes off and go threw a metal detector. If the detector does goes off, the CO will scan you with a wand.

The prison my husband is at is the Idaho Correctional Center. When I went online to get info the only real thing I got from it was that clothing to them is the biggie and what not to wear..Calling them and asking ?'s just made me cry;they were just rude on the phone. My husband doesn't have a rule book yet as of last night and he won't ask anybody yet for anything because it says it is just easier..Can he have vistitors on every visiting day?
Sorry if I seem to be lame..Until finding this site I was or felt totally isloated.

Hi Lynn (I'm a Lynn too)! :)
Since you had some specific visitation questions for Idaho Correctional Center, I have moved this thread to the Idaho forum so your post will have the opportunity to get more specific responses and the best answers to your questions... AND the information will be here to help others in the future, too. :)
You also might want to thumb thru the Idaho forum to see if some of your questions have already been answered in the past... the direct link to the forum is here:
